I want to put hids in my truck but do I need to use the Mopar specific wiring harness for them? I ask because my roommate had an 08 Jeep Patriot and when we put hids in that, it lost its damn mind. We had to get the Mopar harness from the retrofit source, and they worked flawlessly after that. Do we need these harnesses in the 08 Rams as well? Here's the link to it:
Mopar Spec: H13/9008 Bi-xenon Harness

And no I'm not trying to rice my truck out and melt people's eyeballs out. I'm just using a 35 watt 4300k set. And yes they will be re-aimed after install.

You do need to make sure you have the CANBUS module for your HIDs.

The link you point to is just that. If you only install the bulb you will have the same issues as your buddy with his Jeep.

Ok cool that's exactly what I was trying to figure out thank you. Yeah his went completely nuts. Parked it at the gas station and as he was pumping gas it started itself and the starter wouldn't shut off it was just grinding. Had to run inside and get a wrench and unhook the battery to get it to stop.

Another question, if I put a matching set in the fog lights, do I need any special harness for them? Or does the can bus stuff not mess with the fog lights? I'll be using a relay harness for them regardless.

Better get the CANBUS harness for both the Head and FOG. Will prevent any issues with the system.

I don't see why it would influence the starting system though. The worst I have seen is Headlights flickering and the internal headlight burnt signal lighting up. In any cases get the proper harness and adapters will prevent any issues.

Good modding.

Yeah I've never seen anything like it either. It could have been a coincidence, but it happened the day after the hids went in and after that Mopar harness it never happened again in 2 years. Either way it was weird lol

But the reason I was curious about the fog light harness is that the fog lights are a 9006 and the Mopar harness only has h13/9008 connectors. It can be made to work with a 9006, but I was just curious. Itll be a while before I do it anyway. Thanks again

You could also just buy a relay harness and that would fix all the problems and be quite a bit cheaper.

Mopar Specific HID Relay Harness

The one in your link is for 02 to 05 rams. Mine is an 08. Once you select 06+ ram h13 in the drop down box it adds the extra 20 and is the same harness pictured in my link.
