I know a lot of people have questions about towing with the 6.4L hemi, so I thought I'd share my experiences over the past 2 weekends.
My truck
2018 2500 6.4L Hemi
3.73 Gears
35x12.5x18 Federal Couragia MT
18x9 XD Misfits
RCX 2" leveling kit
1.5" Supreme Suspension rear spacer
Borla XR-1 40086 Muffler
Using the lieometer. Haven't calculated actual mpgs. Never used more than roughly 60-70% throttle
Trip 1
About 400 mile round trip
Towing my 7k 16' car trailer
About 2500 lbs empty
No real amount of freeway travel mostly 2 lane "highway". 3/4s of the trip was mainly flat. Small hill's. The last 1/4 was not mountains but had some good climbs.
Started out at 14.4 Ave, ended at 14.8.
Return home. Loaded with a 1987 chevy v20 4x4 reg cab long box 350 with plow. Roughly 4500lbs. So truck and trailer around 7000 pounds. Slightly different route on return trip to avoid some of the narrow steep roads.
Ended up at 12.2 mpg Ave.
Trip 2
About a 550 mile round trip
Towing a 14k 18' hydraulic tilt trailer. Best guess on weight is about 3500 lbs.
Same as trip 1 with no real freeway travel. 3/4 of the trip was almost the same as trip 1. The last 1/4 from Albany in Connecticut was hills and narrow roads.
Started out at 12.2 mpg Ave and ended at 12.4.
Return trip. Loaded with a 1989 Dodge w250 reg cab 4x4 12v cummins. Combined weight was around 11k. Slightly different route on return trip to avoid some of the narrow steep roads. First 1/4 was basically 4 lane highway. End mpg was 10.8.
I hope this gives you some insight on towing with a 6.4L hemi
