I looked at a magnetic pan heater . I guess if you put on the shallow part of the you wouldn't have to worry about the snow ripping it off but then I wonder how effective it would be.I have one from the factory when I ordered my 2021 2500. They are not the same part as the one used on the Diesel. Here in Canada, block heaters are pretty much standard equipment. You rarely see a pickup from the big 3 without them.
I cut into the heater hose to put a flush kit in my '09 TRX4. About a month later I was in the middle of God's Country when one of the clamps let go. I found a zip tie and reconnected the hose. I had to limp along for nearly 5 miles until I got to station with coolant. My antifreeze was so low the temp gauge stopped reading. I had to go by my oil temp and stop a few times.Never used a mag
Never used a magnetic. Block heaters typically heat the coolant, and we have used circulating coolant heaters. This warms the block a lot better than heating the oil. If you use 5w or 0w it doesn't need to be heated to be thin enough.
A block heater is pretty easy to install. Dealer should charge no more than an hour. The circulating ones cut into a heater hose which is easy too.
That ended any idea of splicing a coolant line!
