I was looking for a new HD RAM
My 2009 TRX4 was still in good mechanical condition but the body was losing the salt war from all these years up north without a garage. I saw a white 2024 Bighorn advertised from a dealer two states away. It had the 5th wheel pkg and snow chief pkg. Neither of which I really cared about. What I DID care about was the 6.4 Hemi, anti spin rear, and the price of $48k.
When I got to the Dealer and saw the truck I nearly walked. The listed Mopar rubber mats were missing along with the pucks for 5th wheel pkg. The tailgate protector had some gouges in it and instead of having the advertised 5 miles it had close to 1500. The dealer wound up making good on the mats and knocking another $2 k off the price. I have close to 8k miles on it so far and have bey changing the oil every 2k miles and sending in a sample to Speed diagnostics. At first I had very high copper wear showing (120ppm) . Now after three changes it's down to 55ppm . I notified RAM and documented everything just in case but so far the truck's been good except for the occasional gremlin. Once in a while I'll get in and it will say " key fob not present" and I'll have to push the start button with it.

Congratulations on the new to you truck! You'll love the 6.4 - It's been a very reliable engine for me, but I only have 30,000 miles on it at this point. The only issues I've had were contaminants (casting sand? sludge?) in the engine coolant reservoir, but it's easily removed to clean and leaks within the cab from the third brake light and cab marker lights. Their gasket material is worthless!
Other than that, enjoy that fine truck and post up some pictures of it when you get time

Lol, I went to a self serve truck wash a few days ago during a 25 degree heat wave. I got the truck soaped up and the the pump quit. My truck was pink for a couple days! I'll post some better pics when it's a bit warmer.

The early high copper content is likely the engine still breaking in. Can take a few thousand miles.

Congrats on the new truck, the 6.4 should be a good time.

I'm thinking about installing a block heater. I guess they come standard on the power wagons. I tried looking up an install but all I can find is diesels. Probably not much different. Right now I don't have room to put it in the shop but we just got a warning that it's going to 20 below over the next couple days! I also ordered a Hop kit which I think they should come with.

I read somewhere from a guy with a 21' that had the heater but not the cord. I guess it's behind the starter under a two bolt shield. He never knew it was there.

I have one from the factory when I ordered my 2021 2500. They are not the same part as the one used on the Diesel. Here in Canada, block heaters are pretty much standard equipment. You rarely see a pickup from the big 3 without them.

What is a hop kit?
It's supposed to aid in hauling ability and prevent wheel hop when you accelerate especially in the snow. They claim it can damage your suspension and drive train. It turns out mine came with one but the factory shock isn't very good. I ordered a Bilstein B8 5100 shock for mine. If you look under your truck the shock runs along side the axle from the frame to the top of rear differential.

I looked at a magnetic pan heater . I guess if you put on the shallow part of the you wouldn't have to worry about the snow ripping it off but then I wonder how effective it would be.

Never used a mag

Never used a magnetic. Block heaters typically heat the coolant, and we have used circulating coolant heaters. This warms the block a lot better than heating the oil. If you use 5w or 0w it doesn't need to be heated to be thin enough.

A block heater is pretty easy to install. Dealer should charge no more than an hour. The circulating ones cut into a heater hose which is easy too.
