So i’m in a bit of a pickle. I have a 2005 Ram 1500 SLT with the 5.7 that i got given as a gift with a blown motor. I went through and picked up a used motor for a damn good deal and did the swap myself. However the new engine is out of an 03’ ram. It currently runs and drives but i have a p0300 code. I’ve done injectors, plugs, wires, coils and i’ve ran seagram through the intake as well as the gas tank. I spoke to a tuner shop and the guy agreed with me that all signs point to an EGR issue since the 05’ had an EGR but the 03’ is a non-EGR motor. Sadly the only way to resolve that issue is to tune the PCM aland essentially reprogram the EGR (I don’t know a thing about tuning). But the good ol’ EPA has made it illegal to tamper with emissions systems so unless i outsource to canada like he suggested then im SOL. He also brought up i can buy a new PCM and after some research, a new PCM will run me less than a tune so im leaning towards doing that. My question is, since PCM’s are vin mapped would i use the vin off the 03’ that the engine came out of? or would i use the 05’ vin. And if i need to use the 03’ vin will the new PCM coded to the 03’ vin alter any other aspect of the truck. First time doing a motor swap on my own project so any help is greatly appreciated!
