The ad for the new 2022 Jeep Wagoneer has a 6.4 with significantly more power 471 hp and 455 pounds of torque. Could it be in the Ram’s as well?

Thats because the new jeep will probably be using the SRT 6.4l CAR engine. Not the 6.4l BGE for the Truck.

Certain GVWR numbers limit the HP/TQ. A chassis cab with the 6.4L drops the HP/TQ to meet federal regulations.

That's true, and I actually want the SRT version; more power, and I'm not trying to work it as hard as the 2500 where BGE is obviously the better choice.

If they can put the 5.7 in the 1500, which is also a car engine, they can give us the SRT too. I'm a little miffed at this point, every other truck now is more powerful than our 1500's. Even the pathetic Nissan.

FYI... the 5.7 in the 1500 is also different from the 5.7l in the car :)

the block might be the same. But interals, cam profiles, materials are different.

I didn't know that, thanks for the correction.

Apparently they build the 6.4L truck engines for duty usage and not just occasional
tire burning starts like the 392 Charger/Challenger/Jeep motors.
I'll give up some dyno #s for longevity any day...

You can google the 6.4 and find all sorts of interesting things. Not sure how many variants are made now, but I know our Ram Truck variant gets a forged steel crankshaft (who does THAT anymore?!), sodium-filled valves (!), and other goodies I forget. This thing could go forever if not for lousy lifter / cam lubrication. Maybe by using Red Line Engine Oil it still can?

I tow and haul whatever I want, as often as I want, with absolute confidence with this truck.

I think if you change oil every 5000 miles or so with any quality 0w40 synthetic oil they should live a long time

not the case - look at the "synthetic oil" or "hemi valve tick" threads.

I will take my chances. I will change every 5000 miles or so using PuP and not a bit worried about it.

PUP is one of the quality synthetics that performs ok in Hemi engines, fyi. Many others are not - Mobil 1 being one such. I switched from Mobil 1 to PUP 5 years ago, the Hemi tick that had begun in my engine stopped. Completely.

I'm upgrading to Red Line for maximum protection. Lifter and cam failure costs $4,500 to repair out of warranty, if the engine is even salvageable, because the failure spews metal bits throughout the engine if driving isn't stopped quickly. If not, then it's $9,000 new engine time. Yes, it's too bad FCA never fixed this bad lubrication design, but that's the way it is.

Even if it can be repaired under warranty, you're still out your truck for an undetermined time, waiting for parts.

This failure is so catastrophic to normal usage & life, I'm spending extra in attempts to prevent it.
