Hey Guys, I have a 2017 Ram 1500, the question is, Is there any way to disable the interlock that puts the truck in park if the door is opened ? Sometimes I want to back the truck up a few feet in the garage or when hooking up to a trailer and the truck will shift to park because tho door is open. Very annoying ! Thanks

I think they started this "saftey feature" in 2017.
My 2016 does not do this.

Must have been a mid 2017 or something. My 2017 doesn’t do that. It just rings on the dash the door is open. Whether I’m in Drive or reverse

my 18 does not do this, thought i read about this in another thread and it just ringed in my head when i was backing in to pick up the boat trailer and had the door open....i was expecting something to happen and it never did

My 18 does this, it ****** the heck out of me one day switching to park while the door was open slightly I don't recall why

Plenty of discussion on this lately with the "recall" of sorts. My 17 doesn't do this and I won't be bringing it in so they can "fix" it so it will.

I imagine this feature was one of those "written in blood" sort of deals. Good luck getting it figured out!

I just got a service bulletin telling me to bring it in to have this enabled. I do not plan on doing it, although I just brought it in to have service done I hope they didn’t just do it. I will have to check.

I just took my 17 in for a P0463 code and my gas gauge not working. I very specifically told the service advisor to not perform this “update”. She put it in all caps on the sheet for the tech to not do it and she highlighted it so they wouldn’t overlook it.

I move my truck around in my driveway and on the beach with the door open quite frequently, and would absolutely hate this.

Odd. Had the park recall done on my 2018 2500 CC SLT. I went out to see if my truck did this. I can start the truck with the door open and back it up with no more than the door open display on the dash. Wonder if it is possible for the dealer tech to program wrong???? Or is there another recall that I have not yet received. I know this, I will not allow the MFG to assume that all of their buyers are ignorant fools when operating their vehicles. Hence, all owners must have their vehicles programed. BS

Wondering if it only moves to park when the door is opened??? Maybe, if the door is open at startup one can move around freely. Don't know.

As mentioned mine doesn't slam into park but does automatically move to park if I shut the key off while in gear and at a stop.

I can see why it would do that. May want to try some different scenarios.

I've read somewhere that the door has to be open and the seatbelt unbuckled to have it go to park.

That’s a different recall. The auto park recall applies to 17 Ram 1500s with the 8 speed.
