I picked up a leftover brand new 2018 Ram 2500 Big Horn with the 6.7 Cummins about a month ago. I'm hoping it won't be my last, but my experience is pointing to that. I "upgraded" from a 2017 F-150 FX4. Here's my list so far:
Cons:
I've always wanted a Ram, and am enjoying it for the most part. Please feel free to address any of the problems that I am listing and let me know if it's true for you or "normal" for these trucks. That will save me a few trips to the dealer!
Thanks again,
J.D.
Cons:
- The fuel pump was leaking when I picked it up, so that took about three weeks for them to diagnose and replace.
- The lock/unlock button is glitchy. If I go straight from lock to unlock and back to lock, it will freeze up and not work for a bit. It's like it needs time to reset.
- The sliding back glass is poorly-designed. When opening, it slows down to a creep about 2/3 of the way open as if the motor was too weak to open it. When closing it, it seems as if it bumps into something right before closing all the way. Almost as if it meets the other side, and then slides in behind it.
- When turning on the A/C recirc from the Climate screen yesterday, the button on the screen would not turn red to show it was engaged. However, the light on the button on the panel below it was shining. It took me turning it on and off a few times before it would work correctly on the screen.
- Had to have 2 of the clearance light lenses replaced because they were cracked and condensating from the screws being overtightened at the plant.
- The power folding mirrors wouldn't work when I pressed the button the other day. I pressed it another three times, nothing. Waited a second, pressed it again, and it worked.
- The Ram 2500 is known to be one of the most durable trucks out there. I hope it lives up to its name, even though it was built in Saltillo, Mexico.
- Plenty of power and I love the sound of a Cummins.
- Pretty comfortable ride. Suspension and steering seem good and tight.
- 0% financing.
- Been getting pretty good fuel mileage. Got about 15 mpg according to the dash when I was pulling my Ranger the other day. That's up from about 9 mpg when I was pulling it with my F-150.
- LED bed lights are pretty cool, as well as the high-mount camera.
- I've got about 1600 miles on the truck and my DEF needle still hasn't moved off of full. Not sure what's going on there, because I know that DEF tank cannot be full still.
- When engaging the automatic exhaust brake, you have to toggle through the full exhaust brake. Not a problem. However, the dash shows "Full Exhaust Brake" for about ten seconds before the "Automatic Exhaust Brake" shows up and then goes away. Takes up a lot of screen time when it could just show each prompt for a second or two, or even just go straight to "Automatic Exhaust Brake" without having to show the full exhaust brake prompt at all.
