I grew up Chevy and will still say I'm a Chevy man. I've recently bought my first Dodge. A 2001 Ram sport 1500 4x4. Well I plan on doing a bit of restoration and overhaul. And I recently found out I'm going to be a first time father. So here's where everyone else comes into play. I am looking for ideas on how to build the best all around working/family truck. Headache rack recommendations tool box, grill guard or bull guard, etc etc. I do plan on a 3 inch lift with running bars but that's all I've really decided on. So any info would be a big help. Thanks everyone.

Well I would go for a ranch hand bumper for your 2nd gen. Is it a quad cab or extended cab. Quad being the ext cab option for dodge. If you go to a tractor supply they have plenty toolboxes they have some good stuff. Me personally I wouldn't go with the lift but that's just me. You should check out the 2nd gen diy you might find some neat stuff you may like. 5.2 or 5.9? Welcome to RF :D

I recommend fixing what you have before adding accessories. A fresh tuneup can really make a difference. You should head over to the 2nd gen section and give the Plenum thread a read as it is one of the major flaws of these trucks. I hope you enjoy your stay here, especially in the 2nd gen section. :)

Well my thread probably went stale. I had to switch phone companies due to no signal where we moved. I do have the quad cab and I have 5.9. We have since named her Madi (mad ass dodge). And this truck gets it. I almost can't believe the power it has. She's been given new tires mastercraft mxt's. I have replaced the front wheel hub assembly on both sides, track bar, tie rod ends, ball joints, u joints, front shocks and break lines. I have a 2500 lb winch mounted across the front of the bed for pulling in logs, ATVs, etc. I'm a small guy so it helps immensely. Last week I buried it in the snow in one of our fields along the edge and the little winch pulled us right out. We have come to love this truck, my wife and I. So I'm looking forward to this restore and build project
