I've always owned Fords or Toyota trucks. I've just bought a used 2012 Ram 1500 Lone Star SLT Dual cab with a Hemi 5.7. I can use all the help I can get to make the transition. I know with other makes, the basic maintenance is important. Is there anything else I should do that will make my truck last over 200k miles?

Spark Plugs are a pain but should be replaced every 30k and there is 16. There is a recall on your truck, go check the dealer if it was done. Just like on your trucks a clean PCV makes for a long lasting engine, and I would add a catch can as well.

Get yourself a catch can, if nothing else.
Then do lots of reading and see what's right for you.

I think it's important to mention the Multi-Displacement System (MDS) on your 5.7. Don't be tempted to stray from the manufacturer's recommended oil weight (5w20). Changing weights does funky things to the MDS.
Oh... and welcome :)

Personally I find that the real key to making my vehicles last longer, is to not let other people drive them, especially the wife. Depending on where you are(i.e if you get a lot of sea salt or road salt) would be a good idea to protect the under carriage, washing after roads are salted, might be a good idea to get it sprayed every couple years.

I don't know why but I feel the need to mention, its not a Dodge. The brands officially separated in like 09. Its a pet peeve of mine for some reason.

I think driving around in tow haul mode always is also best. Disables MDS and always keeps engine in better running RPM.s and the truck shifts better as a result. No bogging no tranny shudder. I drive in tow haul 90% of the time, I only don't when I forget to push the button. You can also program your truck to run in tow haul all the time as well. When you are driving 28mph and you are in over drive, you know something isn't right. That is the Ram transmission, but if you have the 8 speed maybe it wont be that bad for you. I have the 6 speed, hate it. unless it is in TH. You were right before the 8 speed option? If so use tow haul.
