First Dodge was 1974 1/2 ton bought in the 80's. Last was 06 Megacab 4x4 5.7 gas. Pulling 30' 6000 lb. trailer. Was sadly disappointed in towing ability. 4 miles 6% grade 20 mph high rpm gas gauge moving down fast enough to watch. Average mpg inital 7.8 mpg, after tuning, k&n cold intake and air bags, 8.2 mpg in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah use. Seriously disappointed in input cost to recovery.
Purchased 2013 2500 Megacab 4x4 6.7 diesel all stock to replace.
The unloaded daily drive is already better (15.7 compared to 23.4 Oct driving) I have not towed yet.
I know off of 5.7 gas summer driving 115+ intake air temp compared to winter driving 80-90 intake made a major difference in power and mpg (about 3 mpg) Trans temps also greatly reduced.
Would a water/**** injection make an improvement on the diesel? Will a chip/tuner be more help? Or both? Will looked Trans cooling when start towing.
Don't want to throw money at a problem for a 50,000 mile payoff but with fuel jumping .50/gallon in the last two weeks looking at options. Already put a K&N cool air intake in (found new in box not used second hand for cheap) just because I live in Phoenix and was a cheap quick pay off investment with our temps. Any suggestions appreciated.
