Hemi 6.4 with 4.10 differential
Stepped up to the plate, and ordered a new 2015 RAM 2500 6.4 / 4.10 with the Laramie Longhorn package. It is supposed to be in by Thanksgiving. Anyone got any advice on break in mileage/time before towing a 10K trailer?

Also, I have run Mobil 1 oil with my Tundra with great results. Anyone have experience using Mobile 1 in a 6.4? What oil weight is recommended for this engine?

One last question, I know I will need an extended skeg because the 2500 is about 8 inches higher at the hitch than my Tundra. When ordering a new skeg, how much drop do you think I need. Not sure how they measure it.
Should I just go with a 9 inch drop, or do I need longer drop?

According to the manual break in consists of 500 miles mixed driving followed by 500 miles towing under 55 mph if I recall.
0w-40 recommended. I have not heard of anyone using Mobile 1 yet. Manual recommends Penzoil Ultra.
I went with a 8" drop for mine and I wound up in the bottom holes. You need to set your trailer level and measure the height to the top of the hitch. That is where you need to start out with ball height.
It would be tuff for me to wait that long for a truck, but it will be worth it!

If you have the time, can you measure from the inside of the top of your receiver to the ground? My ball height is 21" and the difference between that and the measurement will be the drop I need.

I just received an email that my truck is being built this week, but may take 2-4 weeks to reach NH. So it looks like I'll have it by the end of October. That means I need to get the cap on order soon, as well as get the hitch part that goes into the receiver....

I'll have to see if Mobil 1 is available in 0-40 weight. I think I'll switch at the first oil change. What is the factory recommendation for oil change interval for the 6.4 ? Did you get the 3.73 differential or the 4.10? How are you doing for mileage?

Out of curiosity why do you want to run Mobil one vs thr penzoil that comes in it? They are both synthetics and cost pretty much the same. I believe that Mobil one comes in 0w40 in the European series (like Mercedes diesels). I know royal purple comes in 0w40 and it is $7 per quart vs the $9 that they want for the penzoil.

I have used Mobil one in my Tundra since it was new, and like this oil. My friend used to race an IROC Z in 24 hour races (two drivers) and never had an issue with an engine using Mobil 1. I didn't know Penzoil is a synthetic. I'll look into it. How do you like your 2014 model? Did you get the 6.4? Which diff ratio did you get, and how are you doing for gas mileage?

I have ran Mobil one in every one of my vehicles with no problem either. With that being said I will run whatever I believe is the best for my engine while not spending big dollars. For the $22 it was for a 5 quart jug of Mobil one at walmart that was fine, but now it is $26 for the same oil and the penzoil was $23 with a $10 mail in rebate. The trick is no store stocks the srt oil that these engines take, at least that I've found.
I love driving my truck, there are a million things I want to do to it but limited funds cuts that down. I have the 6.4 with 3.73's. According to Fuelly I am averaging 13.4 (actually less but Fuelly isn't counting my first tank which was 12.5. I wish I had 4.10's because I think with the higher gear it can run with the mds a little more, and for just a little more get up and go.

24.75" from the ground to the top of the 2.5" receiver on mine.

Took delivery of the new 2500 last week. So far, so good. I love it. More bells and whistles than you can shake a stick at....
