Found a real nice 06 cummins qc 4x4 , lacking on options interior-wise, but it's clean and drives well. Only has 77k on the odometer, asking 32k, so far I've got them down to 28k. Had my neighbor check it out as he's a diesel mechanic and owns nothing but Dodge. Said he really couldn't find much wrong with it, short of nit-picking it to death. He said there's a tiny tiny bit of play in the front end, but it's not uncommon and this one is in way better shape than others he's seen. Is 28k a decent price? I don't know how much lower I can get them to go.

Only got 1 good pic of it.

5.9 Cummins trucks in good condition are still worth a load of cash it seems.

I own an 06 3500 MC which I bought in 2010 for $28500 with 83,000km. My truck is a Laramie so full load except for rear video.

I just went onto Blackbook and the average asking price for a SLT QC 4x4 which is what that sounds like is $18,615... Now, the mileage on that truck is decently low and it doesn't appear to have been abused, so maybe top out at $20k.. Now, keep in mind of course, there are still a lot of people that will pay north of $30k for these trucks and he may have that in mind.. a 30% drop in price isn't likely. Also keep in mind if you are financing the truck, there are limits as to how much they will give you for it. If it blackbooks at $20k, they aren't going to hand over $30,000 for you to buy it. The dealer probably offered him ~$17,000 if he tried to trade it in...

$18k for a diesel seems kinda low, but I'm no expert. Most diesels that go for $18k around here are really early gen 3's with 200k miles on them. I'm not familiar with Blackbook, do you happen to have a link?

Thanks guys!

Blackbook is the trade in value for cars in north america.. there's a couple different revisions available. Its the standard that virtually every car dealer will use for valuing your/our car when we trade it in. There's also a Bluebook iirc that is the retail for what it should be sold for on a lot when it is retail ready. Basically Blackbook is what a dealer will give, bluebook is what a dealer will ask.

Use this site, it has blackbook available to consumers.

The dealer is trying to rob you blind. 20k like the others say is the most you should pay for that truck.

25,806 using all the details you've provided (and your ZIP) as a 'pristine condition' 06 2500 w/ SLT Quad 6Cyl CTD, 80,000mi

But, on the same note, looking around your area, it seems these are built with a bit of Gold.. I can see why the dealer is asking 30k.. thats what the peers are asking for the same truck.

Best I could do with them was 27, and the fact that it'll need new tires by winter I may have to pass this one up

If they want to sell the truck, they know your number.. :) Best negotiation tool is a pair of shoes. Give it a couple days and see if they are serious about selling it. How much is left on the tires? I'd make sure you get your best price, less the value of a set of tires, or they put a new set on of your choice and they pay the bill.

People are paying outrageous amounts of money for diesels in the past 2-3 years
I'm pretty sure gen3s have shown no depreciation in my area if not gone up in value recently

Two trucks ago, I had a 1999 ford f-250 with the power stroke 7.3L and 278,000 miles. I traded it for my last truck for $7,800 plus the body was just ok and the interior was fair to ok. That's after I got $10k off of their truck. Diesels hold their value and then some here in Ohio.
