After all my research about what the issue could be since I have an ABS LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT and non-working speedometer, I replaced the vehicle speed sensor only to discover that this did not fix the problem. Can anyone suggest what I might check? How would I check to see if it's the VSS circuit itself? I was getting a P0500 (VSS) and P0340 (CMP) before changing the VSS. I did not replace the CMP. I have driven the truck around the block a couple times and the check engine light has yet to come back on. A little help, please? Thanks. BTW: cluster check shows no C codes.

It was a fuse. Actually, lack of a fuse. I will never know how, when, or who but, #35 had been moved to #37. I moved it back and all is well. WTF!? Maybe if I buy a new gas cap my MPGs will improve. o_O :chair: :doh2:

I replaced the sensor on the differential, but no luck. Does any one know where this vss is that the DTC records as a P0500 ??

Did you figure it out? I’m chasing the same exact problem on my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 4x4. ABS/Brake light/no speedometer no odometer. I’ve gone through the fuses. Next I guess I’ll replace the rear vss which I guess is on the rear differential

You have to sprinkle holy water on the hood and do the happy dance in order to get better fuel economy... and it doesn't hurt to erect a mast and a sail in the bed of the truck to catch tail winds while you're at it! ;)

And, using the parts cannon approach to troubleshooting is most often a waste of time and money and only results in disappointment.

Here at Ram Forum, you have an incredible resource at your disposal, why not use it?

With a 23 year old truck, there are many items to investigate before throwing parts at the problem.

Start with load testing the battery with a toaster-style battery load tester like this $18 device from HarbourFreight.

Next, fuses, battery connections and associated wires, common grounds, wiring, connectors, and the TIPM should be verified.

Just because a member has successfully repaired a fault by changing part xyz, there are far too many variables and differences between each vehicle to use that as a solution.

Unless of course you have endless time and money to spend. Good luck.
