Pardon my Ignorance: Next Spring we will be shopping for a New TT.

I'm trying to start planning now! After looking everywhere on the stock class IV receiver hitch that came on my new Ram. I can't see anywhere what Brand It is.

Nor Can I find it's max towing capacity nor max tongue weight.

I thought I read somewhere-->12K lbs towing capacity and 1,200 lbs tongue weight.

Can anyone give me accurate advice on Brand -Towing Capacity-Tongue Weight?

Thanks SyN

Check in your owners manual. It should have a chart as to how the truck is equipped (gears 4x4 etc) to give you the desired information.

The brand of the hitch matters not. Even if you bolted a Class V hitch on the truck, it doesn't change the rating of the truck. (Exception, of course being if you bolted a Class II onto it...)

Straight from Ram's website.

A 2014 Bighorn Quad Cab 4x4 5.7L Hemi with the 3.92 gears has a max payload of 1,485lbs and a max tow rating of 10,150lbs.

That's rams page. My truck is a 14 express qc 4x4 with 3.55 gears. My truck has a payload of 1480 and towing capacity of 8650. The class 4 is capable of everything our trucks can pull. Buy based of your trucks capability not the hitches capability. Happy camping.

Ps. I wish I had 3.92's like you makes a big difference.

Thanks Fellas!

Thanks S2Ki: I already had all that info wrote down in my note book that I started on this project.

I will now look into the Airlift 1000 bags. As well as some Timbren Rear Suspension help.

White Express: Your right! Worrying about Brand is silly! It's like worrying about what brand of under wear your wearing!

As your shopping for a travel trailer make sure you have a good WD hitch and away control - properly set up you won't need airbags.

Thanks Swanny for the advice! Did alot of watching on you tube on the WD Hitch! Looks like the most intelligent way to go when pulling a TT.

Thanks!

Really like the Equal-i-zer Sway Control Hitch. Really not a fan of chains.

Also note, most factory receivers are listed at max weight using a weight distributing hitch. Not using a WD hitch cuts it down to like 500 tongue 5000 max.

5000lb max gross trailer weight--500lb max tongue load.

The tow receiver should say that on it also. It's not that the receiver can't handle the weight, it's because the handling of the truck is altered too much with that amount of weight without the WD hitch.

The WD hitch, if properly setup, distributes the weight between the front and rear axles of the tow vehicle.

Distributes between front axle of tow vehicle and rear axle(s) of trailer - pick your WD hitch based on the tongue weight and gross weight of your TT - we are looking at upgrading our TT to a Forest River Rockwood Ultralite 27022ss - this is about the weight ranges the 1500 excels in pulling.
