I’m thinking about getting a set of OEM style projectors and some HIDs for my 17 Lone Star (stock quads). A lot of people seem to have high praises for the TYC, but so far I’ve only been able to find them listed specifically for the 13-14. Would these work on a 17? If not, can someone elaborate on what changed from 14 to 15-17?

I did find these 1A Auto OEM replacements. They look the same, and are priced the same (the TYCs are listed for $500/pair on amazon, these are $499), but I cannot find any reviews on them. Can anyone with experience with these lights shed some insight? Thanks in advance.

yes the TYC's listed for 13-14 will work. Check rockauto also. I have seen them listed cheaper there.

I can't speak to the 1AAuto ones or to a '17, but I have a TYC projector on the drivers side of my '14. I bought the truck in Aug of '17 as a Certified Pre-Owned from a local dealer and discovered after a month that the driver's headlight had a (badly) repaired crack in the top that was covered by the plastic shield that runs overtop the radiator thus hiding it. It was lettign in a lot of water and the crack should have caused it to fail the CPO checklist. I had to fight with the dealer to get it replaced. I had to go all the way to the owner and threaten to call the local press and the state Attorney General's office to get them to replace it and then they used a TYC instead of a Mopar without telling me they were going to do so. I only noticed it because the TYC doesn't have the molded in RAM letters in the plastic. It's identical otherwise. I do know you'll need an adapter harness to switch from the quads to projectors. A couple of the big headlight retrofiters sell them.

I have the 55W Morimoto HIDs in my factory projectors from retroshop. They are awesome.

I appreciate all of the info. I’ve done halogen to HID swaps a few times, so I know what is needed and involved with getting the HIDs to work, but all of them were done of Ford, so I am just curious as to the quality of the different brand assemblies and what differences between years. Of the 14 vehicles I’ve owned, this is only #2 that wasn’t a ford and my first mopar product.

I personally think the mopar are nicer in everyway except for the projector cutoff. The OEM mopar projector lenses have a fresnel lense which means a blurred texture on it. It helps with brightness to oncoming drivers but affects light output as well and cutoff sharpness. The TYC is not like the OEM here and they run a clear lense compared to the OE. The clear lense has a sharper cutoff and personally a smidge more output due to this. Having one side by side like the guy above in this thread would be able to see the difference and it would bug me out.

It’s up to you, stock for stock the mopar are nicer to me (blinker led color etc) but the TYC give u a better starting point for HIDs. Either one can retrofitted with FXR 3.0 projectors and then it’s whatever u can get a whole of.

I’m about to pull the trigger on some projects and an HOD setup to go with it. I am planning to buy the chrome TYC OEM replacement projectors. I can only seem to find them for ‘13-‘14. I want to confirm these will work with a ‘17. I know I will need the adapter harness since I currently have quads, a relay harness for the HID, canbus harness, ballasts and bulbs. Anything I’m missing?

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 13-14 projectors and 15+ projectors? All of the compatibility lists state they are not compatible with my 17.

Thanks in advance.

I’m running my 2014 sport projectors off my 2014 express on my new 18 Laramie. They are all the same headlight and plugs so it bolts right in. 15+ just used a more sensitive canbus system which makes HIDs and LEDs harder to swap. Reason I kept my 14 sport headlights is a did a FXR retrofit and would never go back to the stock headlights lol.

I tried calling him yesterday, but didn’t realize they weren’t open on saturdays. I left him a voicemail.

Spoke to Jeremy at RetroShop. Very helpful and answered all of my questions. Apparently, for anyone else curious, the difference is they moved from a 9012 bulb to a 9005 bulb in 15+ lights. When ordering the HID kit for them, just need to make sure to select the 9012 if using the 13-14 TYC assemblies.

And the 15+ mopar spec relay harness apparently includes the canbus adapters as well, so no canbus harnesses required in addition. About to order everything.

Ordered everything today. Morimoto xb35 ballasts, 5000k bulbs, relay harness, adapter harness and chrome TYC projectors. Also ordered a set of Morimoto vertical fogs and a harness for them. They’re on backprder but should come in and ship next week. I’m out of town working till next week anyway, so no sweat off my back.

I also bought a Mufflex DOD18. I should come home to a pile of parts!

Should have bought the DODM80 Muffler delete. I have the M80 and it's sick. It's not overly loud and I just passed inspection with it on 2 months ago.

I’ve had extremely loud exhausts in my past (trucks and mustangs), and as I age, I just don’t want to hear it on my DD. I wanted a little more sound, but have no desire to have no muffler. To me, that is a horrible sound and not at all what I am looking for. My ‘13 f150 with a 5.0 had a 14” magnaflow with the resonator still in place and it was one of the more tame exhausts I’ve ever had. I didn’t want it even that loud on this one.

Dodge has one of the best sounding stock exhausts, I just wanted a bit more ass behind it. I had a rental charger RT in San Diego last year and it sounded fantastic! Much better than stock exhaust on the ‘15 Mustang gt I had.

My truck doesn't sound like it doesn't have a muffler... it just sounds like a charger or challenger with an exhaust. It sounds aweaome and it's really not that loud.

I’m glad you like it, but no muffler is a sound I will never want on a vehicle. Each his own. Enjoy yours and I’ll enjoy mine.

But your being ignorant in saying all vehicles without a muffler sound exactly the same. That's literally what your saying and it couldn't be furthur from the truth.

But go ahead and keep on thinking that.

Dude, leave it alone already. I didn’t say they sound the same, I said they sound horrible. A vehicle with no muffler sounds terrible to me, and it’s not something I would ever do. If you like it, that’s awesome. I hope you enjoy it. I don’t, and I would never consider doing that to my truck. That’s my opinion, and you’re not going to change it.

So, as I said, you enjoy yours and I’ll enjoy mine.

You said I “should have bought the muffler delete”. No, I shouldn’t have, because to me, it sounds like trash.

Muffler came in and I installed it on Sunday. Exactly what I was looking for. Enough rumble and grunt for me, but not stupid loud.

The stuff from retroshop for my HID came in also. Now just waiting for the headlights and fogs. I did receive the box for my headlights, but only the passenger side assembly was in it. I called the vendor, and was told “the drivers side is on back order, so we just sent the passenger side”. Well, the ad showed 5 sets in stock when I ordered it, so that ain’t gonna work. They refunded me 1/2 of what I spent and sent me a link to another vendor that showed 15 drivers assemblies in stock. As kissed as I was originally, I say that’s pretty good customer service. Ordered the drivers side assembly last night for $15 less than what they refunded me, so can’t complain too much other than now I have everything except that so I can’t install them. Update to follow once it comes in and gets installed.
