so im on my way down from ny yeasterday, and my wife goes, "u hear that", yeah i do, it sounded like i was dragging saftey chains from a trailer. IM NOT TOWING ANYTHING. doesn't seem to change with rpm, or engine RPM, and if i apply the brakes it dont change. only makes the sound when im moving.. and like i said it sounds like im draggin something metal, not realy a grind though. i just turned over 89k miles

im guna put it on jack stands and put it in gear, see if i can hear it

i might be way off, but if it only does it when it's moving, it's something in the drive line right? makes me think that the differential has give up

deff not marbles, and acceleration or decelling has no effect on sound, almost sounds like the lil metal clip on new brakes rubbing, but its not, just did em a month ago and the rotors are fine, just out of sheer curiosity, how much will a new gear set run me?? and is it driveway doable?

Possibly the clip came off of the LSD.

The majority of cost of rebuilding a read end goes straight to labor and not parts. It's not something every shop can do or is it one of those things you could just figure out yourself in the driveway one weekend

^^^ $$$ ESTIMATE? i cant even look at it till after 5 today, i hope its not the rear end. ANd if the "clip" did fall off Is it just a put it back on type thing, or is this repair gunna hurt

$ 810, yeah ok, im 22 with 2 kids, i paid for gas in quaters yesterday, i just want a factory replacement, for what i have now, if it is infact broke and what exctly do i need? the entire diff? just the ring and pinion? a third job?????? FML

I have never done one but have 2 buddies that have. I know for sure its way past my ability.

Factory replacement would be just as much and you could potentially tlhave the same problem down the road. Biggest things with gears is makin sure they are lined up right so they don't wear funny and whine
