I heard this squeeking noise coming from the drivers side wheel today so i decided to check it out. What i found was quite a bit of oil leaking from the axle and where the axle connected to the wheel. it looks as if its coming directly out from the axle. I also noticed the gear oil spatter on my wheel well. I believe this could possibly be an axle seal leak most likely or at the least a pinion seal leak but i'm clueless. I'd really appreciate it if you could help me out on this. I'll try to upload pictures but im not exactly sure how

Sounds like a axle seal to me...

Best way to post pics is to upload them to Photobucket, then copy and paste the IMG tags here.

Mine does too...and has for years. I've been told that the carrier assembly has to come out to replace the seal because it's at the differential.

I just check and top mine off every few months...and whatever you do, don't overfill! The oil level is about 5/8 inch below the fill plug.

I just discovered this so i will check and fill it if needed but do you think i should leave it and keep checking every so often or get it fixed. How much would it cost at a shop to replace that seal since you have to tear it all down
