Hey all, haven't posted in a while. While I'm driving my oil pressure is at a steady 53 psi, and when I stop it drops to about 30. Then when I put it in park it goes up to 35, is this normal?
Note I just changed the oil less than 1k miles ago. My oil level is where is should be and it smells fine.

Maybe your oil pressure sending unit is going bad. How many miles on the truck? The pickup in the oil pan could be partially stopped up if you have a **** ton of miles. There are several possibilities we just need more information.

Its going to drop off at idle in gear, low rpms mean less pressure.
When you take it out of gear the rpms rise as does your oil pressure.
I dont think you are to far from normal if memory serves my carries about 36 at idle warmed up .
Different oil weight will effect the pressure as well.

This seems to be normal for the 2009-2012 Hemi powered Rams. I remember my 2009 doing the exact same thing. This might be why we are having issues with camshafts and such at higher miles.

I think in 2013 they did something and increased the oil pressure at idle. My 2014 Hemi idles at 46 PSI when at operating temp. I am using 5w-30 redline oil but that shouldn't change my idle PSI that much.

I use penziol platinum full synthetic 5w15

OP there’s nothing wrong with your truck. It normal for the oil pressure to fluctuate like that. I would be concerned if it fell to the 20 psi or less category or while at driving speed it didn’t get higher than say 30 psi.
All the pressures you mentioned are normal.
Drive the **** out of it and have fun enjoying your truck.

Oh I sure do drive the hell out of it! Gotta have my fun with this one so I can sell it as a down payment on an eco diesel after college :)

5w-15 is too thin of an oil. It needs to be a heavier weight

Personally I’d be using a 5-30 top tier oil in it and def not royal purple. Redline is one of the best toughest oils on the market. Id also use the mopar SRT filter.

Ok now I am confused: You say (mix you use) but the pic is of Red Line 5W-30 then you say ( mix you use , but Penzoil) Pennzoil.

So curious minds would be interested in knowing:
Do you run Pennzoil 5W-30 or RL 5W-30?

Maybe me being old, I just don’t understand the younger generation language.

Just me: When I had my 2014 5.7L — I made a very special point to avoid any amount of idle time as much as I could. Especially after operating temp had been reached.
Just for that simple reason: Much lower oil pressure. (Just my OCD).
Not one thing wrong with limiting idle time.

It's a yellow bottle of penzzoil platinum synthetic 5w30 that I use, I have the red line picture saved as reference because I found it in another thread. I apologize for my illiteracy today I was working until 2am last night

My 5.7 and 6.4 both have lower oil pressure at idle. I have monitored it on our 2018 2500 6.4. Techs claim it is normal and part of the design of the MDS and oil galleys.

All engines drop pressure a idle, it's not an issue unless it's dropping into single digits.

I just thought I would make a post asking because I've never seen it drop below 38 psi even when stopped
