I am a big fan of Michelin tires,

You can try to tell me they're different now , etc . But l hate & despise Michelin tires .

An almost new set came on a new to us XJ , but the lack of traction was so extreme, to make me " throw away " almost new $$ tires .

It would almost seem that EdG made his selection in post #5 ( and those seem a decent option for him ) , so this might all be moot .

Not really putting together the criteria from post #1 , criteria seems kind of opposing , if not contradictory.

Maybe ( most of time driving on highway) , but ( when you Do Need off road capability, you REALLY Need it ) ?

I could get that . Not getting stuck beyond self recovery, 5 miles from maintained gravel , and no cell coverage is important. To me that's worth compromising 10k of highway tread life .

The current '17 1500 is my first 20 inch tires . ( thing hard about rim diameter on Peterbilt ? )

I already looked askance at 20 in with the tiny sidewalks , with no rubber to flex , and easy to get rim damage. All to just look " urban cool " .

Looking at the prices in this thread for 17 tires , it would seem a set of 17 inch rims would pay for themselves with first tire replacement.

211,000 miles

Getting to needing new shoes on the girl.

Currently have Nitto DuraGrappler HT
P265/70R17 just under 40k miles, NOT impressed with them at all.

Had Cooper Discoverer A/T LT's 'E' rated.

Loved them, got 83k miles. Cooper since bought by Goodyear. Discoverer still available, no more OWL, which sucks, IMO.

Looking seriously at BFG KO2 or KO3 'E' rated

I know KO2 are excellent for longevity, but no clue about KO3. Online info indicates better wet traction and grip than the KO2, but softer rubber.

Anybody running KO2's or KO3's???

Opinions???

TIA
ko3s are a really good tire, I have a set on my jeep bought them in 2019. they still have a lot of tread on them.

I won't claim whether or not they are any good off road, but they were great in the dry, wet, and snow on my 1500. They have been great performance tires on my other two cars. My dad ran them for a long time on his 06 cummins but switched a couple years ago when they started wearing faster than they had in the past (90% towing a bunch of lawn equipment). All depends what you are trying to do with them.

I was leaning KO2 because I know they last, and they look like a truck tire should, IMO. I really like the white lettering as well, I think it makes them pop.

The Discoverers I had before, but before Goodyear bought Cooper. Price is good, no white letter anymore (booo), We have a set on the Wife's Tundra in 20", we will see.

Still on the fence about which ones.

I can attest to this, I love my KO2's and won't ever run anything else on my Jeep!

That's the thing , they weren't .

Once upon a time , we were both out near the Biggfoot Retreat #1 , XJ w/ Michleins , my shortbed 4x4 S-10 w/ Dunlop Radial Rovers . Light icy snow over smooth graded gravel .

XJ in 4 hi could barely stay on the road . S-10 in 2wd , perfect traction drive circles around her .

Man I hate those tires. They throw rocks like crazy. Once had new windshield and a H3 pulled in front of me on gravel road. Crack!

They seem like they would be good in dirt/sand/snow and rock crawling. But mud and they are clogged.

I feel same as you about my Blackhawk Ridgecrawler RTs. When current set wears out gonna get exact same set again. I recommend them to everyone who asks.

I run 275/65/20 10 ply on my 19 Big Horn.

I'm not a fan of KO2s. Just always seemed too stiff of rubber, going after high mileage ratings. I much prefer the discoverers & Coopers all round.

As for the white walls, just buy a white tire paint pen and do it yourself!
They're 'E' rated, but no more OWL (boooo!)

They're $37 more per tire than my last Cooper's, and $ for install/warranty, etc.

You're absolutely right, I'm always picking small pebbles outta mine. :banghead:
My Jeep never leaves the road though. Jeeps break too easy, mines just a pavement pound'r with potential. lol
