Good evening,

This is my first time using a forum, and I'm new to the Ram game.

A week after I bought myb05 Ram 1500 it gave me the code for catalytic converter low efficiency bank 2. I changed all 02 sensors, just because. When i got to the last one, the down stream on the passenger side, the hole was stripped and the 02 sensor fell off in my hand. I had that section of pipe fixed, and it still gave me the code again. So I did the non fouler trick, and I haven't gotten the catalytic converter low efficiency code for 2 weeks. (Over 300 miles) but now it's giving me the p0298 just the last few days. Maybe a exhaust leak in the new pipe that was welded on before down stream 02?
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers

Could you tell if the cat has been compromised (besides the rotten b*u*n*g) or gutted?

if you haven’t already done the following

Check your radiator with a pressure test see if it holds.

Preform a cylinder leak down test and just a plain compression test.

If you’re getting any coolant or too much water vapor into the exhaust system from condensation, water, snow or maybe it sat in a snow bank previously you could just have a bad cat that’s deteriorating, or carbon build up clogging it.

You want to find the reason before you try to replace any parts

It’s a guesstimate to what the vehicle history was before you bought it.

Is the cat original that you can tell or compared to a similar vehicle is it welded in or flanged in with bolts ?

The cat seems to be in good shape, no external damage. I'm going to put a camera down the up stream 02 hole today.

I haven't done a pressure test on the coolant side or leak down test, but I will soon.

The cat is original.

Ill let you know what I find
Thanks

Late update. Ended up being a crack in the section of exhaust just after the cat. Patched it up, no code.
