Possible Issue with WIN module?

Hey all. I have all sorts of issues popping up lately, or it is just bothering me enough to finally dig deeper. My 2012 1500 has had some issues where it will no crank/no start. I replaced the starter and inspected the relay/JCase fuse, but the issue persists. Often times I have to wiggle the fob in the ignition for it to start up. Remote start works without any problems. That is leading me to believe it is the WIN module. I have not tried the relay jumper yet.

I don’t quite understand the WIN module. If I replace it, does it need to be programmed first? Is that something a locksmith can do? Next, am I able to use the existing fobs, or do I need new ones? Or, are the new fobs why it needs to be programmed in the first place?

I had a similar issue with my truck. A piece broke off in the WIN module (that holds the key in), then it wouldn't let me lock/unlock the doors with the FOB. Then it wouldn't start.

I bought a Dorman WIN Module from Amazon, it was an open box special for $178. They sent me an OEM Chrysler WIN for a 2010 truck with remote start (my truck doesn't have it. I put it in and used AlphaOBD to program it. I also had to re-program my FOBs. I did buy a couple of new FOBs just in case, but, didn't need them. Everything is working fine on it now. Took all of 20 minutes to swap it out and reprogram it. Only problem I have, is the range on the FOBs seems to be reduced, so, I am ordering the remote start antenna and see if that fixes it.

AlphaOBD is about $57 and the cable is also about $50. You can get AlphaOBD for Windows or Android. I use the Windows version on my laptop.

Go on youtube and type in WIN Module. There's a lot of DIY how-to's. Lots to choose from. It's real common chrysler (not just Rams) issue.

This guy knows his WIN modules ...
BUT, he would never tell everything about them..

IF, it can be taken apart, even using a soldering iron, it can almost always be fixed
