Hi everyone. I’m sure this has been covered 100 times, but if I buy pre-owned what seems to be the best year(s)? And years to stay away from. Thanks!
Some folk say the years 11 and 12 are more prone to the lifter/cam failure. My 11 was fine for 6 years and 88000 miles. No issues, 1 recall. I would opt for the 8 speed. If I was buying used, my concern would be getting a flood vehicle.
Best years seem to be at least a couple after a redesign has occurred. In the 4th generations case, first year was 2009 and a refresh was done in 2013 (although 2011 is not known as one of the stronger years). I've been hearing a few things about some of the 2018's that have been making me happier I got a 17 a few months ago rather than a year newer. I also wanted to get back under as much warranty as possible so I was looking for at least a 17 for that reason. Full warranty is 3yr/36k and power train is 5/60, although it used to be 5/100 I believe so an older ram may actually still have a better power train warranty but I'd have to check what year that changed over to be sure. I think 2016 was the last year to have the longer (mileage wise) power train warranty, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
