So... I don't need a new truck but have been keeping an eye lately anyway. I have a 2014 qc tradesman, hemi, 4x4, almost paid off but I just turned 100k miles.... This is a 2017 crew, 4x4 v6, Big Horn. The upgraded interior would be nice, especially the crew over quad cab. The biggest downfall would be going from the v8 to v6. The size of the motor probably isn't a deal breaker but how does the V6 push 35" tires?
It's not a steal but....The price on this truck just seems too good...it's a 2017, the truck only has 9,311 miles and the asking price is $25,950.00. KBB suggested is almost $29,000

3.6 4x4... it'll be a dog. still a nice enough truck and not too far below book. Any history of flood/accident damage, etc? might be worth a carfax.

Yeah, worried about that. I put on a level and 35's in august so I'd really like to swap my tires plus level to anything new. Currently I have a hemi plus custom tune pushing those 35's... Thinking I at least need to stick with a hemi in a new truck or just leave it stock... Don't want to do that either. Haha

Check out the carfax, it was a buyback vehicle. It even lists the problem plus you can see the service history.

Thanks for that. I'm no longer interested, and I never really kept up on the buy back issue but wouldn't or shouldn't the problem be fixed before they try to resell? It says a sensor was replaced.

You would think someone could really beat up the dealership on the price of that truck. Of course it's a risk but someone will buy it...

I believe they're supposed to fix it, however it could be fixed for the time being and then within 1k, 2k, or 5k miles comes back. I personally wouldn't trust that it was fixed because if you buy it and find out 1k+ miles down the road you may be stuck with it depending on your state's lemon law.

Yep, right there in the CarFax link off the dealers site:

"Vehicle reacquired by the manufacturer pursuant to applicable state consumer warranty laws or to promote customer satisfaction.

Reason provided by Manufacturer:
Vehicle stalls
Multiple warning lights continue to illuminate
Check engine light on"

Then

"Drivability/performance checked
Sensor replaced" at a Chrysler dealer

Then

"Listed as a manufacturer vehicle
Vehicle sold at auction" and listed at the dealer.

I wouldn't settle for it being only.3k below kbb. I bought a 17 ram qc 4x4 with hemi for 30k brand new off the lot 2 months ago

In the end you gotta wonder, Why are they giving me such a great deal, 4k below book. Maybe cause I'm such a great guy or maybe my sterling personality---or maybe like you found---a bad CarFax. I hate to say it but IMHO everytime you go to a dealer to buy something you better have your jockstrap on backwards!

guys dont fallback on "carfax"

i can tell you countless issues with 2nd hand ecodiesels where the new owners find out literally last second that the truck was a buyback lemon from FCA

but carfax shows nothing.

I would take the vin and ask the a ram dealer to put it through the database to show you where it has been serviced before and what has actually been done.

Off top of my head i have seen probably 2-3 ecodiesels potential buyers back out of the deal due to finding out it was a buyback, i believe 1 still went ahead and bought it.

again - carfax wont show you anything if the dealers dont report it

The Carfax link in the dealer website provided by on actually shows the buyback, the issue, the resolution and the re-sale. I posted the info a few posts up.

Technically the dealer is being forthcoming because they aren't hiding the Carfax link. But I'm sure they aren't explicitly saying it was a buyback unless a potential buyer asks outright.

Dont buy that truck.. 2017's are getting marked down like crazy, you can find a sweet deal on the same truck with a HEMI. Go find a dealer that already has 2019's on the lot and new, or certified preowned 2017's I bet you could get that truck for 5k more with a hemi with the same miles or even new.

With production numbers so high in 2017, and 2018, and the early release of the 2019 the 4th gens are going to get marked down so much once dealers start getting in 2019's and selling them. The problem is the 2019's are so damn expensive right now no one will buy them. the dealers are hoping people will buy up the 4th gens first but because they have so many they will sit on lots until 2019 and they will be forced to push them to make numbers.
