After looking into the jeep wrangler 4xe, this looks like something that could be awesome for a power wagon.

The additional torque would be amazing and obviously better mpg would be great. Towing could be greatly improved as well.

I am not a fan of full electric, but a plug in hybrid makes a lot of sense.

Has anyone heard of anything like this in development?

You will never Tesla my powerwagon!

I dont think this would happen. It wouldn't really help towing. As the limitation on this truck is the suspension, and also wouldn't really help with gas mileage, because a truck this big would need one helluva battery to give it any kind of reasonable use.

Plus adding a hybrid system to a 6.4l Merican Hemi just seems wrong

PW barely has any payload capacity now. Add all that crap and your available payload will be 800 pounds. I'd rather see a modern boosted V-8 around 4.8 - 5.0 liters dropped under the hood. Anything close 450hp/450tq with 20 mpg would be awesome.

Yea, I did not factor in the extra weight. Last time I towed 8k pounds over a mountain, I really wished I had some more torque. The electric motor would not care about the less dense air and would really help in that scenario. Even though I was below its max payload, I still wanted more power.

I have always been a big V8 guy, but I cant deny the amazing on demand torque and power of an electric motor. A plug in Hybrid makes a lot of since. Make use of the best of both worlds. The tech is still young, maybe when they can make these batteries weigh less it could be a viable option.

If you ever decide to live in the mountains and not just drive over them, then you'll might not want a hybrid, especially in the Power Wagon. Both the colder climate and the continuous mountainous terrain are not what the hybrids are designed for. You'll be disappointed in their performance,
