RAM tailgate letters install on 2nd gen??

Hi, new here. My son received his 2nd generation 2500 (1996) for his 15th birthday. He loves the truck and just had it painted in Nardo gray ( previously green and silver). Now, he is looking to detail the truck. He likes the RAM lettering on the newer Ram trucks and has found some on Amazon and Ebay ,but we are wondering if anyone else has installed these letters on an older Ram and if they are even compatible? He had already removed the sticker decals ( Dodge & 4x4) and the black tailgate protective panel across the bottom has been removed as well so the tailgate is bare. Just wondering if anyone else had installed these letters. Any assistance or thoughts would be greatly appreciated !

My opinion since it is a Dodge truck, stay with Dodge graphics. Here is some ideas on graphics.

Some of the RAM lettering fit in indents in the tailgate with positioning holes and pins, make sure you know what you are getting.

The 4th gen letters are only held on with double sided tape. They have 2 alignment pins on each letter that goes into holes in the tailgate. They'll need cut off if putting on an older model. But after cutting the alignment pins off they would stick just like any other emblem.
