Does any know anything about this as to what exactly happens when this fail? Enroute today a fire scene last night I gernaded the rear end, looks like the pinion shaft came loos and puked out the front, when I bought the truck in February dodge told me all safety recalls were service but 4k later this happens and bought as is no warranty so I'm hoping this recall covers the repair

So you're saying you bought it used from a dealership or a used lot, correct? First thing is to see if the recall has truly been performed, something a dealership can easily look up.

From there you gotta see what solution's are available. Both factory, and possibly in this case, with the used dealer.

Here's the PDF in case anyone needs to understand OP's question.
(Sorry, but no way I have to remote host it so it's viewable. Just right click and open in a new tab or window.)

Whoa! I thought this issue was 09-10 only! How do I check to see if my 2011 is a problem?

I'm worried now. I'd like to avoid a breakdown. Yikes.

Edit: Ram's website shows no recall for my vin number. Guess I'm ok?

Yup, bought it from a big name dealership. Was told told all recalls have been done. After a little searching this reclal came out about 2-weeks after I bought the truck. I'll find out more when I call them today and see what can be done or if I'm outa pocket for the repair.
I'm thinking about if this is a issue and weak link and I'm outa pocket on it I may just drop in a D60 from a 3/4ton and modify the axles to 5 lug, width and mounting. Its a little extreme but the thought of undersized parts in a rear diff and turning up the power on the little red rocket doesn't work well with me. And even if I'm not outa pocket I still may look for a stronger axle. I cant find much for parts on strengthening the stock one.

Yes, if you go to the first link, on the left there is a option to look up recalls by vin, enter your vin under it and it will tell you what recalls effect you.

On another note My dodge dealer in Auburn will cover the repair under a 3 month 3k miles purchase warranty if it is not due to the recall. but from talking to the service manager it looks as if its related to it but unknow till they crack it open. so I'll haul it up in the morn.

I'm Having HEMI withdrawls... all my other vehicles are too SLOW!!!! haven't driven my truck since Saturday.
Dropped it off at the dealer this morning and they are looking into the cause and if the Recall on it covers the repair, my purchase warranty covers it or they will put it to the drive-train warranty. Will know more on the failure this afternoon.

Glad they are taking care of you. I bought my 2009 used. about 6000 miles after purchase the read started to whine and you could tell a bearing was going out. I did my research and found out the dealer I bought it from did the rear diff service 7000 miles before my issue. I read where some others had issues with dealers putting too much pre-load on the bearing and thus pre-mature failure. I brought this up and the fact that they were the last ones inside that pumpkin... they replaced all the guts under the recall.

Just got a call from the service guy, It took out the whole center section. Needs new gears, bearings the works, but they are tagging it to the recall so no out of pocket expense for me. Thats the good news. Bad News is I'm outa my truck for a week as they dont have the Gear set for the R/T and will take 5 days to get it. They offered me a loaner but I have other vehicles so no need. So Far its been a great dealership to work with. No complaints, other than I miss my truck.
