Remove rear wheel stud on 2003 ?

I have one bad stud on my driver side rear wheel .. ive read some say you have to remove the axle others say there is a sweet spot to pop it out.. any help appreciated

There has to be a spot you can turn the rear wheel to that will give you enough clearance to take out the old one and put in a new one... I'd find it hard to believe that the axle has to be removed to replace a wheel stud.
