Hi everyone,
Due to excessive rust, I am replacing all my rear brake hardware, and just learned I have to remove the rear axle shaft to replace backing plates. Here are my questions:

0: Should I replace the bearings now, even though it is not making any noise?
1: can someone confirm if Is there an outer and inner bearing?
2: how difficult is it to replace the inner bearing?
3: If doing the bearings, what else I must replace at the same time?

I never removed an axle before, but I am very mechanically handy and have tons of tools.

while at it, I will be wire brushing and rust inhibitor painting all exposed metal.
Thank you!

watch a video or two on replacing the wheel bearings.

This guy is an amateur, but he got the job done, with a misstep or 2

I would replace your axle bearings and seals along with the backing plate and emergency brake assy, make sure you pull the bearing race for each bearing, you can rent a slide hammer W/ jaw to pull the bearing races, there are 2 bearings for the axle shafts, one inside the differential carrier inside the pumpkin and the other on the outside by the backing plate I would just replace the 2 outer bearings and races.
