Just noticing how TERRIBLE the headlights are on my 14 2500. Just bought my wife a new Wrangler with the LED lights and now I’m realizing I have to do something about mine. Have a few question

1. Are the stock quads really that hard to separate? I’ve seen it suggested to buy a less expensive set on Amazon and retrofit those, but every set I find on there seems to be of questionable quality, with fitment or leaking issues. I’d much rather use a set of OEM lights. Are certain year lights easier/harder to separate?

2. I’m looking at painting the lights, either a semi-gloss black or color matching my Maximum Steel truck. How difficult is it to DIY color match?

3. Since the projector will do low and high, what do I do with the high beam spot? Leave the high bulb in and run it in parallel with the projector? Put an LED pod in there run off of its own switch? Any other ideas?

4. I’m digging the fitted halo from diode dynamics, but not the $180 price tag on it. Is there anything else like it for less $$$

Did the above headlights myself ... separated , painted and installed switchback halo..... Worst part is taking apart and then resealing

I’ve done a couple sets after that for my buddies ... huge pain in the ass with one lights ... aftermarket eBay lights are much easier to separate ... I’d suggest using those and repaint to ur color ...

I have this set in my truck now which are sick. I paid a guy on this forum to make em for me

I then wired the halos to. A switch in the cab that way I could run them independently of each other . The rigid pods are ridiculously bright and have clean beam.. have yet to be flashed so I know they are aimed correctly ...

Now im slightly addicted to customizing my.truck and lights specifically... However yep kids make it hard to make the time...a decent income tax return allowed me to order a custom set from retro shop! Color morph Demon eyes with color morph halo and a blue tooth controller. (The halo and controller I had already for plans of installing myself)

Can't wait til they come in.not sure what I'll do with the other lights ... Maybe just keep as a spare ...

But if u don't have a lot of extra loot to pay retro shop to build em it is doable .... I wanted the extra piece of mind of them doing all the wiring and sealing and me not having to worry about a thing !

Good luck! Post pics!!!

All the reviews on the ebay/Amazon lights are pretty negative. Lots of leaking problems, which I guess won't be an issue when they are separated and resealed, and lots of just plain doesn't fit problems. Weird gaps and having to make modifications to get them to mount. I think I'd prefer to deal with OEM lights even though they are harder to open, unless someone van recommend a set of aftermarkets that will actually fit and look right

Get the aftermarket housings. Easier to get into and most of the “problem areas” will be addressed during any retrofit. Quads are easiest unless you want to go with the led version as I know there is a bracket out there that allows quick install of fx-r projectors in them. I’ve done custom mini d2s in mine (the square ones) and am almost finished with my mini h1 fog light retrofit (need to remove the step on the shield). None of it is really hard just time consuming. Good luck and let us know if you need any help!

What aftermarket housings do you recommend? The ones I'm seeing on Amazon have mixed reviews either from leaking (which should be alleviated in the retrofit process) or fitment, slightly smaller than the OEM housings leaving odd gaps. I can't seem to find the TYC brand that are recommended in quads, only projectors

They leak because of bad seals, guess what you will be replacing when you do the retrofit?

Right, but that doesn't help with the fitment issues. All the aftermarket housings I've found have at least a few reviews saying that they don't fit right

I've had 5 sets of the "oem style eBay quads" and every single set for perfect and didn't have one single leak.

Trust me if your opening them up and have to reseal them, there is absolutely NO point to buy the oem ones because no matter if their OEM or eBay replicas it all comes down to how good of a job you do revealing them. The aftermarket eBay ones don't leak from anywhere except maybe the seal on the lense so if you are going to have to reseal them then you will be fine.

Plus if you mess up and ruin the lights you won't be out as much money as the OEM ones cost double.

I custom built a set of 13+ projectors and opening them took hours. It was such a hassle. I had condensation issues in one lense after I resealed them. A quick bead of black marine sicone around the groove where the sense meets the housing and I threw in some gel silica packs I made myself and I havnt had a single drop of moisture in them for 6+ months now.

I've built a couple sets of the eBay quads for people and nobody has had any fitment issues or anything at all.

Here's a couple quick pictures of the 13+ projectors I built for my truck. They are going up for sale later today so I can build something new.
