*** Edit- Correction of tire sizes. Edward Hands was kind enough to point out the mistakes, and I should have double checked.

My existing tires are 275/55R20 on OEM RAM 20", and I am looking at a set of 285/45R22 on OEM RAM1500 22" rims. I am sorry for wasting anyone's time today. ***

G'day folks. I have a 2021RAM 1500 Laramie, 4wd, crew cab, 5.7 e-torque Hemi truck. It came with the OEM 1500 6 lug, 20" wheels and the original tires are 275/50R20. I need new tires.

In searching for tires, I ran across an ad for OEM RAM 1500, 6 lug 22" wheels with the original tires that are 285/50R22. Tires have good life left, more than half...

Anyway, is it possible to install the 22s on my RAM without a lot of difficulty?

Thank you in advance for your knowledge and patience with my lack thereof, lol. The last time I learned about tires, sizes, aspect ratios etc was forty-plus years ago in grade 9.

I would bet that you actually are running 275/55R20 right now, but regardless the 22" factory wheel tire combo should be a straight bolt-on for you.

Old tire (275/50R20) diameter = 30.8"
New tire (285/50R22) diameter = 33.2"

60mph on your speedo will actually be 64.7mph. You would either need to have your speedo corrected or get used to accounting for it manually.

Otherwise mechanically they will bolt right up.

Original tire aspect ratio was 275/55 on a 2021 RAM 1500 Laramie, 4wd, crew cab, 5.7 e-torque Hemi truck.
More than likely he has the original 31.9" tall tire already.
And the tire that he is actually looking at are the factory 285/40 series (32.1" tall)
Please re-check your sidewalls and let me know if I am wrong.

Yup, you are correct about my original tire aspect ratio. 275/55R20. I typed it incorrectly here from my notes, thanks.
I have inquired about the size on the 22s, as they are not yet in my possession.
*just heard back from the seller, he said they are 285/45R22

Sounds like you are good to go then. "Factory take-offs" are usually be a super sweet deal since you can save the cost of mount & balance if you install them yourself.
Personally I don't like to lose ride quality with the shorter sidewalls of the 22" but if the price is right, jump on it.
Just hang on to your 20"

Edward Hands, if I may please ask another question, do you know if I would need to have the speedometer adjusted, or anything else for that matter?

Unless you are buying the 22s for appearance purposes I would strongly suggest getting new 20" rubber, or 20" tires used off the market places. Personally, I tried 20s and went back to 18" tires for the taller sidewalls for better ride, better rim protection, resistance to potholes and 18" rubber is WAY cheaper than 20 or 22" rubber, plus selection is a lot better. However, I care more about comfort and function than appearance.

Agreed, skinny tires are not for trucks that get any kind of use.

Here is a website that will allow you to compare tire sizes;
https://tiresize.com/comparison/
Myself I got the offroad package on my Laramie that cam with the 18" tires and wheels,
LT 275/65R18C, I actually went a bit narrower and taller,
I'm running 265/70R18 summers and LT265/70R18 studded snows.

Thank you for the great info, rzr6-4. I gave out incorrect measurements earlier. I'm sorry to waste your time.

Tire size I have currently are OEM 20" wheels with 275/55R20 tires, and I am looking at are OEM 22" wheels with 285/45R22 tires. So it looks like the speeds might have less difference, I think (?)

Thanks again, James

I can't argue with anything you said there Dean2, thank you for your input.
I'm looking at this as much for money considerations right now but, I think I might... might be able to get away with the 22" wheels' ride difference as my truck is only a ½-ton. I think your suspension is already stiffer than mine, being the ¾-ton(?). I don't know, lol.

But I'm looking at this as a, for now, cheaper way to get newer tires on my truck. The ads I'm finding for rims-tires-TPMS are looking less expensive than a set of 4 new good tires.

Your 1500 certainly has a more car like ride, regardless of the tire. However, all the rest of the commets apply with repsect to function and cost to replace tires. If you really want to save money, find a set of 20 inch takeoffs in your tire size. You should be able to get 4 brand new takeoffs, tires only, to mount on your rims, for 4 to 600 bucks. Before you jump to 22 inch tires, look at the price of rthe same tire, same dimensions in 18, 20 and 22 inch. I think you will be surprised how much the difference is. If anything I would be looking for 18 inch rims amd tires rather than 22s.

Yes sir! Oh yes, a few hundred bucks difference in tire costs between wheel size for sure.
To be honest, I don't think I could go down a size to 18s. I've never been a huge fan of smaller rims with huge sidewalls on the tires. But that's just my own tastes, as others will have different likes or dislike.
I was searching for and planned staying with the 20s, but found listings for 22s with tires in good shape. The listing were less than just buying 4 tires... that's what started me going down this rabbit hole, lol.

I definitely have some thinking to do. Thanks again!

Please post some pictures once the 22" are installed.
It may be a week or two Edward, but I'll post some pics of what ends up getting done. Lol, that's if my old hump can diffuser out how to upload a pic. I'm not having any luck. Maybe there is a delay with them because I am new to the site.

I appreciate all of your help, sir.

My wife has factory 22" wheels and tires on her 2022 1500 limited. It is the best riding vehicle we have owned. I'm sure the air suspension helps with that, but the people that are saying to ride will not be good couldn't he further from the truth. Absolutely amazing ride with 22's!!

I have a 19 1500 Classic with 20" black wheels, and I wish I had gotten the dealer to put 17"'s on it before I bought it. I have 35X12.50R20 Mud Terrains, and they look stupid IMHO, but I am old school - small wheels and big rubber.
