Wheel and Tire Change

Good Morning, I currently have the OEM 22 inch forged black wheels on my 2020 Ram 1500. I have the opportunity to purchase some 20 inch wheels in a style I really like. My question is, will going with a smaller wheel and higher profile tire improve my ride quality? I currently have 285 x 45 R22s on the truck and am looking to go to 285 x 55 x R20s. Thoughts????

Technically and in practice a higher profile tire will ride better than a low profile due to more sidewall to absorb bumps and jolts. But from 22” to 20”, I don’t know if you will notice a lot of difference. Any difference could just as well be a characteristic of differences in the tires. But maybe.

The half tons ride amazing either way. Put whatever wheels and tires on you want. The ride won't change much because it is already a great ride.

Funny you say that because I am definitely a pavement queen and maybe when I was younger I was a metrosexual. Not so much any more now that I am old and chunky. So really you could have answered that question without passing judgement. FYI..... I am also former Special Forces so big tires and jacked up suspension doesn't make you tough. Life does!

Tire size won't change much to effect the speedo/odometer

The factory 20" is a 275/55/20, which is the same diameter as the 22" OEM 285/45/22 size, the 18" OEM 275/65/18 size is also the same diameter.

I have several rams. Got one on 22s 2 on 20s and 1 on 17s. The 22s corner better, the 20s are the easiest to find as a replacement and the 17s are generally the cheapest and allow for more body sway/roll due to the larger sidewall.

All will work . I see a big ride difference in 22 to 20, due to road transfer via the wheel and seat. 17s are greatest for rough roads, 20s are great all around. If I'm on a several thousand mile road trip, 90% of the time, I'm in a ram on 20s. Hope this helps

I changed my tires from the factory 275/55/R20 to 275/60/R20 slightly taller sidewall, I did need to change the tire size which was very easy to do. It took longer to hook up the security bypass cable than to program the change.
