If you purchase a wiring harness, it will make the job very simple. I went through the firewall at the clutch delete plate. It's a plastic plate that is bolted onto the sheet metal. You can drill whatever size hole you need and use a grommet to finish it off.

Here is a link to a thread about it. http://www.ramforum.com/f41/wiring_up_aux_lights-84967/

In my 2011 I used the Daystar Firewall Boot Daystar™ - Driven by Design - I drilled the hole into the clutch delete plate - matched perfectly to the firewall hole. Was great for the weather !!!

I poked a hole in the factory wiring harness boot. It went through without a hitch.
