I have a 96 ram 1500 5.2 v8 it started to idle rought , drink gas and at about 40 mph have a really horrible shake . I have a check engine light on and it says miss fire on number 2 . I replaced spark plugs , wires , distriptor cap and rotor .
Any ideas on what to check next .

After changing all that stuff did you clear the code? Either with a scanner or by pulling the battery cables and see if the code comes back.

How did the rotor/ plugs look when you took them out?

Yeah still no change and check engine light came back , at about 40 the check engine light with flash constant

You could tell on the rotor it was miss firing .

A flashing cel is a sign of yes a bad missfire. Time for a comp test to be done on the whole motor. Has the plenum gasket been changed yet?

Ok info was posted about the plenum gasket thats good. But before you go tearing it down to fix that do the comp test first. These heads have a very bad habit of cracking between the valves.

Definitely start with the compression check.

That plenum DIY is very informative but you may not need to replace that gasket.
