Ok cool. Might give this stuff a shot to see if it helps. Anything I should avoid? I see it mentions non oil resistant rubber. So avoid ball joints and stuff?

It shouldn't be hard to avoid rubbers, electrical connectors, etc... if you're being somewhat careful. I did the whole undercarriage and had little issue doing so. Common sense prevails here I think. If it probably shouldn't be or doesn't need to be, I wouldn't coat it.

But this is ok for rotating parts like the driveshafts?

Yes. It's actually ok for almost everything under a vehicle - electrical connections included. Not entirely sure which rubbers are non-oil resistant but that would be where I took the most care around and just try to avoid them as much as possible. Don't overthink it. In most casts I'd think the rubbers under a vehicle are oil resistant. They almost have to be in the enviroment they are in.

I went with the NH Oil application at local shop near me professional applied for $200 + Tax came out great little smelly but its going away.

This has to be one of the most superior ways of combating and preventing rust! They do inside frame rails too.

Just rule #1 no under carriage washing, which is fine by me i don't do automatic car washes.

You don’t have both done. The terms rustproofing and undercoating are the same thing and $500 is the biggest ripoff ever.

Do not under any circumstances let them put a rubberized undercoating on your truck. You may as well send it straight to the junkyard after it’s applied. It was trap moisture against everything and your frame and will rot your truck out quicker than leaving it bare with no protection. Ontop of that good luck ever doing any maintenance to your truck or even finding a mechanic willing to work on your vehicle once it’s applied.

Always stuck to an oil/wax based coating such as Krown/Fluid Film/Woolwax. They will continue to creep into the metal and provide a very good coating while not causing any negatives

I’ve read mentions of dealers voiding warrantees for undercoating, obviously as it relates to the issue ... I’m here in OH, smack dab in the middle of the rust belt, and the home of too much road salt ... Fluid film, and to a lesser cheaper, messier end, oil spray, are king around here ... Oil spray for $60, fluid film $100-$125 ... FF is worth the extra money ... Should be able to Google your area, and a shop with reviews should pop up

Before having my 2020 Ram "rust proofed" and undercoated, I contacted my service advise who told me the rust and undercoat would not affect my warranty.

For those people that aren't familiar with Krown they basically have the same rust coverage as the the OEM supplies.10 year unlimited mileage rust perforation as long as you do it once a year.

I am confused with the statements that these coatings will “trap moisuture”. Exactly how do they do this? That’s like saying don’t paint your truck as the paint will ‘trap moisture “. Now I can see that if the coating was applied if the bottom of the truck was wet but all things being equal, it’s no different than a paint job..

just my 2 cents

Its a fair question. They trap moisture when they allow water in and hold it against the surface of paint or bare metal. Oil based protectants will flow like water but will displace water from the surface needing protection.

Since my link at the beginning of the thread disappeared, this is why you don't want to use rubberized undercoating
