I was under my 2015 RCSB yesterday having a maintenance look-around after washing and noticed this unit dangling upside-down next to my fuel filler hose. Photograph taken from below the truck, behind the cab, forward of the driver side rear tire. Visible near the center of the photo are the fuel filler neck assembly and this cylindrical device about the size of a RedBull can.

It was originally affixed from the factory with a large zip-tie. In this photograph I had flipped it back mostly upright, but it had been hanging down and slapping the inside of the body sheet metal. (You can see darker marks below from where it was dangling)

I don't know what it actually does but I'm sure it's better when it's held upright where it belongs than when it's bouncing around at the end of its hose.

Just an FYI in case anyone is inclined to keep an orderly truck. Also if you know what that device does, comment up I'm curious.

It's a part of the EVAC as said above.

And they are absolutely zip tied to the filler neck from the factory.

When I replaced the fuel pump on my 1500 I had to remove the filler neck, and actually broke this in the process, because I didnt cut the zip ties before trying to move it.

It is a pretty cheap part, and should be able to be replaced through the fender well. They dont stock them at the dealer, so will take about a week to get in

I sincerely doubt the factory affixed that EVAC vent with a zip tie.

I've owned this vehicle since new, seems unlikely somebody would have gone under there and removed some other kind of bracket, replaced it with a broken zip tie.

I think I might look for a fabric/velcro type tie wrap, maybe less likely to have a repeat failure.

Well they are, the filter has a slot and it’s zip tied to the filler neck. Not the best design but that’s how they come from the factory.

If so, I'd see if there is room to install at least a worm screw clamp! (like an aftermarket hose clamp)

Get a good quality tie -not Chinese- with a larger cross section and it’ll last the life of the truck. The whole wiring harness and countless other hoses etc. are secured with ties. Utilities use them outdoors for phone and internet cables lasting decades.
