What steps to you take to secure your Ram if you're leaving it unattended for a long time (days or more)? When hunting or fishing, I will sometimes be away for days, or in rare occasions, for a week.

Has anyone done any mods (kill switch, etc.) or have any tips that would make the truck "unstartable"? With the new trucks, and RFID ignitions, I suspect a kill switch is no longer a DYI project. On my old Chevy, I used to pull the fuel pump relay and drop it in my pack, but I don't think it's that easy on the diesel.

What do you do when you're taking a charter fishing trip for several days? Or a backwoods hunting trip?

Bonus question: Does anyone leave a spare key hidden on the truck anywhere?

Thanks for any replies. With the new chipped keys, I'm not sure if I even need to do this now.

I leave an unlock only not start key hidden on the truck incase I lock my self out.
Other than lock it I pay full coverage so I don't fret too much about leaving it alone when I'm hunting or fishing.

I use The Club mostly because it is visible security. In the past, I have hidden a door key by using electrical tape to attach it to the wire harness. Unless you know what to look for, and where, you would never know it’s there.

First pretty simple thing I do is never leave anything inside the vehicle visible. Put any cords, papers, containers, box of tissues, literally EVERYTHING I have in a car will be hidden. Visible cords/electronics and paper materials are the #1 attraction for low lives. First line of defense is don’t give them an obvious reason to choose your vehicle. This is especially easy in the Ram with storage everywhere. Plus I am a neat freak when it comes to my car interiors.

It amazes me when I’m walking by a lot of cars and see how much **** people have just laying around. Next time you’re at a mall take a look inside a lot of the cars as you walk by, you may be surprised how many valuable things people leave laying around in their cars.

We were at Target and there was a small truck, a Mazda or something who one, had a ton of trash inside the cab, but two appeared to have just made a Sams Club run because the bed was filled with snacks and drinks sealed in the boxes, completely uncovered and not strapped in. I told my fiancee that if I had a hankering for a 500 piece box of gumballs, this guy might be out of luck! Its amazing how much trust people put into the general public. I enjoy having 5% tint in the rear for security reasons too, especially with my baby not being visible when I drive. I am paranoid I know, but hey its a crazy world. As others have said, hide everything, or rather dont keep anything you cant live without, and if you ARE going to keep stuff in the car, make sure it adds up to more than your comprehensive deductible for your homeowner and auto. The worst feeling is having a $250 deductible or higher on comp, having someone steal a $200 pair of headphones, and then having to swallow the loss because youd be OUT money filing a claim to have it replaced and then having it on your insurance record. Ask me how I know.

**** you not a few months ago I saw a parked car with cash, literally, sitting on the dash board... Either it was one of the dumbest people on earth or maybe the local PD was out having some fun? Crazy.

I leave any valuables in the rear floor storage bins. Only Ram owners know they exist.

I am often thinking of this same issue when I'm out in the woods or desert. I recommend doing what a few others have already said. Get everything out of sight, dark tint helps too. I have triple later limo now so I don't have to hide anything. Try and hunt and hike with groups too. We usually have a few vehicles at camp when I go out. Spare key... haven't really thought about that. Hopefully I never lose one while I'm out. Maybe bring an extra one and give it to a buddy? I like the idea of having a door only key hidden too.

I find that once I'm sitting on a hillside glassing, I forget about my truck. It really makes for a more enjoyable experience. We have insurance for a reason. Even though we love our trucks, it's all replaceable. Better to enjoy the moment than worry about the truck back at camp.

I would like to add that whenever I'm out in the middle of no where I always bring my jump pack. If something happens, charge your phone and hike to somewhere you have service.

I bet you could wire in a kill switch if you wanted to though. Maybe even a battery disconnect hidden in the engine compartment.

Emptied of everything but proof of insurance that is a copied version that I've blacked out the address, etc. If I want to be super **** a goose sandwiched feather in a specific door spot you simply can't duplicate.

insured lock it and leave it
brianj

I worry more about my truck parked in my driveway than I do leaving it locked while doing outdoors activities......BUT,..... I'm sure that has more to do with what part of the country you live in.

So your point is to make sure its MORE than your deductable so instead of eating $200 , you would have to lose the whole $250 AND have to file a claim too???????:deal:
