Hey guys, on a 1995 Ram 2500 diesel: It will only start with the steering wheel adjusted all the way up and if I lower the wheel the truck shuts off. Any ideas?

Sounds like a bad connection to the ignition switch, pull the cover off of the steering column and see what you can find.

That fell out when I took the cover off

Interesting.

Could you show more pics from different angles?

I wonder if this was once part of someone's ignition defeat switch.
Is the jumper wire (within the white split-loom casing) well connected on both ends of this black plastic device?

Is the small black wire connected to anything?

Thanks, seems like it’s fixed. A few wires were being pinched against the metal stopper. When I removed the cover a wire loop coiled in clear metal Alaric fell out. I couldn’t determine where it came from.

The black tail isn’t connected. It was cut but I can’t find the other cut end.

And yes the loop is secure on both ends

If the small black wire isn't connected to anything, the entire assembly is just leftover junk from someone's abandoned modification. Hopefully, nothing is damaged under the cover and this problem won't re-appear in the future.

A good find and a simple easy fix for you. Congrats!
