So I have a 1,000 miles on my ecodiesel and I am not impressed

can someone please explain to me why they would buy a ecodiesel over a cummins when they are so close in price, it just blows my mind.

They aren't close in price. $8-$10K difference if they are comparably equipped. As much as I loved my old Cummins, none of them ever got 28 mpg. And much cheaper to maintain. Believe me, having owned both, it is a lot cheaper.

I had a 2009 Mercedes ML with the 3.0 diesel, bluetec, and it was not a very strong engine in that and mileage was not very good either. The main reason I did not even look at the ED when buying my new truck, thought about a 1500, but went 2500 6.4 instead...

When you need a truck that actually does truck stuff without tearing it to pieces like a puny 1500, you gotta pay to play.

Well, a little common sense goes a long way. I wouldn't have thought about pulling my old 12K pound toyhauler with a 1500. That's why I had my Cummins. My new 7600 pound TH is a breeze with the Ecodiesel.

Not everyone needs to do what a 2500/3500 can do. Hell I would bet that very few people actually "need" such a truck.

Bring it on over, buddy. And by all means, use the drive to learn how to operate your Eco Diesel in order achieve optimum performance out of it.

My '15 Eco Diesel is a quad cab, 6'4" Rambox bed 4x4 with 3:55 rearend gears. I leveled it with Bilsteins @ the 2.1 setting and put one size larger tires on it (34" instead of the stock 33"). It has a fuel economy rating of 19 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. I don't drive it gently, but I don't drive like it's a race to get from point A to point B either. I looked at my average on my EVIC just now and I'm at 24.9 mpg with 427 miles on this tank of fuel. I consistently get 28 mpg on the highway running 70-75 mph.

You can't compare it to a car because of the higher profile. Cars are designed much more aerodynamically than trucks, out of necessity and intended purpose. Just learn how to drive the truck. I traded my '12 Hemi Ram 4x4 with 3:92's in on my Eco Diesel. Best mileage I ever saw out of the Hemi was around 18 mpg on the highway. City was around 15 and combined was about 16.5. When I drove it like I stole it I got around 14-15 mpg.

I also tow a 7600 pound toyhauler on occasion. 8 mpg with the Hemi, 16 mpg with the Eco Diesel.
Lol. He wants to show you his "Big Diesel" :naughty: :homoswitch:

I know, I'm just ribbin ya a bit. I do wish I had gotten a long bed Cummins over my short 6.4, but at the time of purchase I owned a motorhome. Now I have a truck camper so I can take the boat with us and still have wheels to get away from camp. Atleast once or twice a week I'm hauling something that would be a noticeable workout for a 1500 but the 2500 don't even know it's there, with the occasional 14k equipment moving.

I'd love one..... some day when I have a need for it. Right now I don't tow, carry work stuff around that is <1000lbs. daily and drive A LOT. My 1500 with the Pentastar is the perfect tool.

When I retire I'm living in a 5th wheel trailer and my vehicle will be a diesel dually.

It all comes down to choosing the right tool for the right job.

Yes I know this post of mine is apples to oranges, like the op's comparisons he did but here it is.

I have a 2014 Jeep grand cherokee "Limited" Ecoddiesel that is all wheel drive"quadratrac" with off road 2 package and tow package with rear self leveling shocks class 4 hitch.

Same motor as RAM.

My 2500 cummins was in the
shop 38 days the first year of ownership mostly due the the asshats at the epa choking the modern diesels!!

my Jeep has not had issues and will be 3yrs old this
November now 33,600 miles
I am getting 24-27mixed driving and the best so far is 32mpg running 75mph down the interstate.

Last month I had a 4500lb milling machine on my 10k trailer that I pulled from the Pocono Mtns in Pennsylvania to South carolina for a scaled weight of 7100lbs at 65-75 depending on speed limit and got 22 mpg.

Jeep Pulling Deckel FP4MA Slideshow by doctordeckel | Photobucket

This is also very similar load I pulled behind Nissan Titan,Nissan Frontier,Ram 2500.

All of these vehicle got the proper equipment to pull these kinds of loads such as Firestone ride right air bags on the frontier, same trunion square bar 14,000lb wdh.

I intend to buy Green Diesel engineerings tune they have for the ecodiesel ecm computer ,to eliminate EGR,DPF,DEF injection to let the diesel run like it was meant to from design.

This is not a radical tune for HP but does give 2-4 mpg and a better torque curve.

Just my opinion and I am sure yours will vary!

Huh?? I've never known any vehicle to do even close to as good as the sticker... let alone better. MPG ratings are done under ideal conditions that you basically can never replicate. If you've ever done better you likely had a good tailwind or a broken calculator.

As for the power/speed thing, the newer diesels are choked down with A LOT of emissions and other crap. The HD Cummins drivers make similar complaints. The days of cranking out black smoke and screeching tires are gone unless you do major mods (along with voiding your warranty).

fwiw - 22mpg from a full size truck is pretty good mileage. That's 2-3X what they were getting 20 years ago.

Maybe referring to the Volkswagen diesels as they did that but we all know they also cheated. I would want one of those that cheat they work great!

A few things:

1) Break in not completed at 1K miles - should improve over time until after 15K miles.

2) Driving style, terrain, speed, etc. all make a huge difference.

3) The RAM weighs, tows, and hauls *way* more than the BMW & Audi.

4) You test drove it, right?

I agree. 1K is not even close to broke in. 7Kish you might start seeing it go up.
