So I have a 1,000 miles on my ecodiesel and I am not impressed at all with this truck. My MPG sucks and the truck feels under powered. First of all I was expecting this truck to have a solid 27 mpg ( diesels usually do better than sticker) and right now I am less than 22 mpg. I also feel like the engine is too small for this truck, I shouldn't have to get on it like I do to get this thing moving. I just traded in my 2014 crewcab 4x4 Hemi, that truck would move without flooring it. My biggest disappointment is MPGs, I have a 328d awd and I get better than sticker at 90 mph , that car moves and sips diesel. So I was expecting better numbers from this diesel. Having basically the same truck before this one makes my opinion more justified in my eyes.

Is it possible to tune the Ecodiesel?

A few things:

1) Break in not completed at 1K miles - should improve over time until after 15K miles.

2) Driving style, terrain, speed, etc. all make a huge difference.

3) The RAM weighs, tows, and hauls *way* more than the BMW & Audi.

4) You test drove it, right?

Running 90 in any ecodiesel truck won't get you 27 mpg.

EPA tests avg around 50 mph.

You needing to use more throttle to go is likely turbo lag. My work truck is 3.0 diesel and us same way.

Rollin Smoke Diesel has lots of goodies for the Ecodiesel since I believe they own one. I've watched them build it up, and it's pretty wicked after they threw some parts at it.

Huh?? I've never known any vehicle to do even close to as good as the sticker... let alone better. MPG ratings are done under ideal conditions that you basically can never replicate. If you've ever done better you likely had a good tailwind or a broken calculator.

As for the power/speed thing, the newer diesels are choked down with A LOT of emissions and other crap. The HD Cummins drivers make similar complaints. The days of cranking out black smoke and screeching tires are gone unless you do major mods (along with voiding your warranty).

fwiw - 22mpg from a full size truck is pretty good mileage. That's 2-3X what they were getting 20 years ago.

I have always done better than EPA estimates without trying in all 10-12 vehicles I've owned over the past 30 years. I drove mostly 50 mile+ highway commutes and used reasonable/prudent driving techniques (prompt acceleration, steady speeds (70+mph), anticipating hills.... drove as I didn't have brakes). Most folks don't have a clue how to drive efficiently while having fun, nor care to. Nothing wrong with that.

Now you've heard of a dozen vehicles. The office is chock full of other examples.

For the tanks I drove more stop/go city type driving combined with cold weather, I'd be lucky to get within 10% of the EPA number. And its harder to beat today's EPA estimates than they were years ago.

You're comparing the RAM to Audi and BMW??? :roflsquared: **** my wife's Volvo V60 T5 gets 35 MPG highway and can outrun my HEMI all day :roflsquared:

Good luck with the diesel though.. of course on this hemi-centric board I think you are preaching to the choir

If you don't drive an EcoDiesel like your trying to win the Detroit Grand Prix or you just stole it, there is no problem getting the EPA numbers. I have no problems getting 26-28 highway(21-22 in the city) with 3.92 gearing.
The OP was thinking the EcoDiesel was going to be fast like his Hemi he turned in or the other sports cars he mentioned.

I can hit 20 if I keep it below 65. Speed limit where I live is only 60, I normally do 62, seems like the sweet spot. I have a leveled 2500 diesel running 35s. Currently only have 5k on the clock so expecting/hoping for a little improvement. But 20mpg would be just fine for me. Slow down a little and find the sweet spot for your truck stay in the right lane and enjoy your new ride while letting everyone else waste money in the fast lane.

Just another Agrats84 type. Signs up on all the Ram forums ******* and moaning when the problem is the brain that controls the accelerator pedal. Wants to compare it to European cars of all things. Probably doesn't own any of the listed vehicles and is just trolling.

Charlotte and Steph is more like it.

Sorry, not buying into your pity party you were hoping to have. Truck is not at fault, you are way over realistic in your expectations and lack of home work before buying.

Also, claiming to have had a 2014 RAM but were not a participating member until now to ***** about your new ecodiesel does not lend to ones credibility. You are not about being part of the community but just wanting a parking place to cry for your self induced disappointments. Probably be like the rest of the first post ******** that will stay in single digit post counts and the account then goes dead until you find your next heartache in life.

Sounds like the troll didn't do his research ahead of time. There is an entire forum dedicated to the Ram Ecodiesel.

My buddy has an Eco and gets 26-29 consistently. Not sure what you've got going on there, but, as others have said, at a thousand miles you are definitely too soon to judge true, long-term MPG.

I see your point... TV adds show 29mpg...Smoke n Mirrors...Hype...Call it what you want...It's ALL bullshyt...22mpg this early in it's life could turn into 24-25mpg later down the road...My 6.4 only gets 1.5-2 mpg better than both the previous Silverado C.C. Duallys that had 6.0 motors and 4.10 gears...Also those Duallys weighed 1200# more than this Ram 2500 S.R.W. Reg Cab...I tow the same trailer with the same equipment over the same roads with both trucks. So my numbers are spot on when compared over the last year...

You obviously didn't drive it before buying it. Not that you would know fuel mileage but you would understand the difference in power delivery.
