I have my build sheet, so that's not the question (mopar.com is awesome in that regard.)

My question is... how does one find out about the really cryptic packages? I can go to the nearest dealer (and I likely will anyway if I cannot find it), but I see stuff like this:

Customer Preferred Package 22G
Customer Preferred Package 2TG

...umm, okay? What's that? :)

Anyone have any idea what those might be?

(Mind, my truck's lineage is a bit odd, since I'm the 2nd owner - it was previously owned by Enterprise (car rental company), so that might explain some of it.)

22g is big horn package. 20 inch rims and some other goodies.
2tg is the tow group. Depending on year should indicate trailer brake controller and receiver hitch with heavy duty oil cooler. Though this depends on year.

I think it depends on the year, then... I do have the SLT package (according to the badging on the bed). I don't see a brake controller anywhere (I also had to put the hitch receiver on myself). Although it did have the trailer wiring all in place and set up. I'll check for an oil cooler (which would be nice even w/o towing, since I live in some rather hilly country.)

20" rims would be nice... I never measured (just assumed they were the std. 17")
Thank you :)

Google:

[Year] [Model] ebrochure .pdf

example:

"2018 Ram 1500 ebrochure .pdf"

Download the .pdf file, open it and skip to the back section where they list optional packages by dealer ordering codes.

Or you are looking at 2018 or 2019 models, go to some dealer websites, look up a few trucks and study the window stickers. Most dealer websites have a link where you can download the window sticker, though sometimes it's somewhat hidden.

What I've gathered so far, from educated guesses anyway (I used this as a starting point: http://digimag.rrd.com/Chrysler/DNL/eBrochure-Ram-1500-Catalog-2017.pdf )

"Customer Preferred Package 22G" is the engine designation: In my case Pentastar 3.6L engine ("22") in an SLT ("G") trim level.

( It makes sense - the Big Horn package w/ a v6 is package 22S, the Express w/ a v6 is 22J, The Rebel with that engine is 22W, and so forth. )

"Customer Preferred Package 2TG" - I can find tons of info on the HD trucks for this (2500/3500 series trucks), but so far nada on the 1500. May have to hit the dealer for this one.

PS: found a small goldmine of build codes / pamphlets that may help others here: https://www.ramtrucks.com/gab.html

Email ram direct and ask them to email you your actual build sheet. That will have the sales codes for all your packages and codes for every single item on your truck. The “build sheet” you get from mopar.com by entering your vin is actually just your vehicle equipment list.

Ah, I should have come back and updated this one for posterity (thought I got it - my bad :) )

In my case, as I found out later, the 2017 SLT build is a bit unique... starting in 2017, they stopped making and selling the SLT trim package except for fleet purchases. I bought mine used, with the previous/original owner being Enterprise (rental car company). Wikipedia explains it best:

The mid-level SLT trim level of the RAM 1500 is no longer available to retail customers, as it is now a lesser-equipped model reserved exclusively for fleet customers. However, the SLT trim level still remains for the Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 models, and are still available to retail customers [of the HD series trucks]. However, [Ram 1500] retail customers wanting SLT features such as chrome front and rear bumpers and front grille, seventeen-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, power windows and door locks with keyless entry, the U Connect 5.0BT (RA2) touch-screen radio, cloth seating surfaces, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, a rear-view backup camera system, and floor carpeting, can still opt for the Chrome Appearance and Popular Equipment Packages on the Tradesman model.
