I just built my own box Saturday, still need to carpet it though. But even with the box I have now, it's impossible to see.

It's pretty big, and it's in the middle of my tailgate. I think I measured it at 33.5 inches long 14" tall

I've got a router and a round-over bit if you need to smooth out that port. ;-)

What's going in it and what's the enclosure tuned to?

I've got a router too, that's how the hole was cut for the sub,and the enclosure is going behind my seat, hopefully with a kicker comp VR 12, or a Rockford p3 12

I am considering (out of bordem) building a ported box for my Solobaric. Just the straight up cube box, and seeing how different it sounds. I'm quite happy with my small sealed box though.

Take a step back, man.
Ported enclosures are science...not build a big box and slap any old sub in.
Pick your sub...then build the enclosure for it specifically.
Anything less is just ******* in the wind and hoping to hit your target.

DAUM! Thats a nice box and kickers sound great in a ported enclosure...If I was you I would go with a kicker cvx. almost perfect for that subwoofer

I Have 2 10 inch JL with a custom box and I have my JL amp under my seat still got plenty of room to store things, I cut the back seat storage in half so i can still store things behind my passenger seat.

The box may be perfect for it. But my amp, and most importantly my wallet isn't haha.

Got any pictures of the cut? That was my original plan, but I'm nervous as to how the cut will look all said and done.

Not that bad. I did it in the 80's when I had a Toyota xtra cab. I'm sure there are plenty of online calculators to figure it out

IMO not worth it. I think the sealed boxes are smaller and give you a hard hit and stops not that shaky rattly sound where the speaker vibrates too much. More crisp/sharp vs muddy

You obviously need to hear a well-planned, well-crafted, perfectly tuned ported box....it's sound and output will be nothing like you have described above
...for the record

^^^what he said^^^

If you just fumble your way through it you'll never know how good it can really be.
Any subs specs, which you will get when you buy it, are all the information you need to build the right enclosure.
Once you model the sub in WinISD or something similar you'll know what to do.
99% of people won't do that...any I can't figure out why. If you're gonna spend the money on the equipment then do the job right too.
