Sudden Highway Acceleration

I have had this happen twice to me in 2 days. The truck reacts like I have floored it at highway cruising speed, even though I am not pushing the accelerator, and then the check engine light comes on and stays on. This has happened in the same exact spot, but nothing hashappened when I have passed by the same spot returning home. The first time I had the check engine light cleared at local shop, but light still currently on. the second time it happened had engine on cruise control.

So the throttle is sticking open? What code was present?

Mine did that about a week ago on the expressway with Cruz set to seventy, and It was real windy not sure if that was the cause but all the sudden it was like I floored it and it kept going hard like I was trying to pass someone so I turned off the cruze and it ran normal it scared the sh#@ out of me.

Thats really odd. I had a truck we were test driving accelerate on its own also. And the lightning bolt came on.

My engine light didn't come on though.. Any idea the cause? I have been getting terrible gas mileage, combination of city/highway 12mpg. I think my rotors are warped pedal pulses so will be getting those done this week..not sure if any of that would help in figuring out the cause of sudden acceleration?

Sudden unexpected acceleration.
I had this happen soon after an oil change at the dodge dealer. The cause was when they removed the air cleaner from the throttle body. The throttle body gasket fell inside the throttle body and got all wrapped around then mechanism in the throttle body.

Welcome to RF! As soon as you get home take off your intake and inspect the throttle body. Even if it's not that dirty clean it very well. Good idea to take it off and scour it really well. It's either the Throttle body or the throttle positioning sensor.
