Howdy All,

Last week, here in Del Rio, TX, the daytime high was something close to 110 deg. Poor truck had sit outside while I worked. Finally went out to go home at 5:30pm. The gauge cluster temp readout for the outside temp read 133 deg! A personal record of sorts.

All of that got me thinking about the gauge readout. Is it just repeating the oat sensor for the engine computer and is there an upper limit where the software says “nope, too hot. No start for you”

Cheers

Sensor is in the driver side mirror. When the plastic gets hot in direct sunlight, it shows all kinds of wildly high numbers. I don't remember exactly how high I have seen mine but it is probably around 140 degrees.

Would not have guessed if there was a dedicated temp sensor (seems needlessly complicated) that it would be in the driver's side mirror

Not the best for heat, but critical for cold to have sensor as remote as possible to get accurate numbers to determine if it is below freezing or not. At least they is my use when I was way up north to gauge how long it was below freezing for bridges and such.
