Im debating whether to by the oem start (with install about 450 at stealership) or an aftermarket for 285 installed, my dilemma is I could install the oem myself , it cost 235 -195 on ebay but I need to have it programmed, and its not just the keys, but the install looks soooooo easy, but its a major part that needs to be programmed, aka not drivable until its programmed, so I would have to have it towed to the dealer( cost $0 ) thanks AAA and then they would charge about 50 for programming (at the stealership), they said over the phone. I just dont know what I want to do, I would love to have it integrated with the key, but Viper makes good stuff and Ive had good luck with best buy installs. ugh

what should I do?????????

OEM has the range of your keys, my aftermarket one goes 2000ft. And the one up from mine goes a mile. Smart start goes anywhere you have signal. Useful for places like the mall, or where you park and walk. So if your alarm goes off you are alerted no matter where you are.

Its really up to you. Just have to decide if you want factory or aftermarket since they both cost about the same if you install the oem yourself.

For me it was a question of having two keyfobs vs. one. I went with Factory Remote start, and I love it. I paid about 200 for the kit and 50 for the install (friend works at dealer)

I install remote starts for a living and there really is no comparison. Range will be your biggest issue with OEM. especially if your in a building or something. Also consider if you would want a 2 way system(lets you know on the remote if the vehicle actually started or not) The OEM wont do that for you. One more thing, if you decide on an aftermarket I would recommend Astrostart over Viper. They are both made by Directed and are virtually the same. The difference is I HATE the Viper LED remotes... They break easily and the buttons are way too touchy. Astrostart remotes are extremely sturdy and have a nicer feel to them.

I have always had astro starts until my Ram and they were great. Mine came with remote start from factory but range is useless at my work. I went with Autostart also made by directed and also bought the smart start.
It is amazing the main remote is 2 way and has range or 3000ft the companion remote is one way only and the smart start has unlimited range and what I need to start my truck at the mall I work in.

I really like the remote that Autostart has because I don't have to hold in the buttons long like I did with Astro. It is more like an OEM length to push.

I carry the remote and my factory nub and I can use either one to start it depending on range.

Where I live remote start is a must have.

Smiley is right Autostart is also a great brand. What it will come down to with Directed products is personal preference because they all have close to the same insides.

Autopage make great systems. I cannot stress enough that if you don't know what you are doing, do not attempt to install your own.
