So right now I have a 4.7L V8, in my 2002 dodge ram 1500 4x4 sport QCSB. The engine currently has 220K miles on it and I'm afraid of how much longer it will last me before it finally gives out and I want to be prepared for when it does. What's the biggest engine I could fit in there after removing the 4.7? SRT-10, SRT-8, 5.7 hemi? I was looking at the SRT-8 and I think those were around 4 thousand for the crate motor, if I remember correctly? Any help and advice would be so much appreciated!

Would it be worth it for you to put a new engine in an old beast? If you do, how much longer will the running gear last? Transmission, Transfer Case, Hubs, Bearings, etc, etc...

If you aren't comfortable with the future that truck will provide, why not trade it off before it puts you in a tight spot?

Unless you're into that sort of thing.. I know I wouldn't be interested in it.

Are you gonna do the work or a shop? If your gonna do it your gonna need to be able to fab and dedicate a ton of time to it.

Gonna need PCM, Wiring harness, Motor from intake to oil pan, trans with shifter, cluster, drive shaft and rear (unless you want to get custom made ones), motor mounts, pedals to add clutch. I know im missing a ton of odds and ends but gives you a small peek.

It would be better to find a 4.7 H/O and tune it.

^^ haha then ya scrap that idea, I'd go with kenny with the 4.7 H/O then.

Anything can be done with time and $$ but coming from a shop that does strokers in the Mopar stuff that is more common it still takes alot. I mean something as simple as over looking it needing a performance fuel pump to feed the injectors for the v-10 is not cheap.

The absolute biggest engine crammed successfully into a 3rd gen was a stroked crate 2G hemi (528 I think) done for SEMA by Mopar. Took the factory a ton of work, I don't recommend it. A 2002 was converted by a member of one of the Viper truck forums into a stealth SRT-10. You will need engine, trans, driveshaft, rear axle (I wouldn't recommend trying to run the 9.25" behind that...), as much wiring as you can get and modules; fuel pump. Probably need some suspension bits too. Those beasts came with huge brakes for a reason, might be a good idea to upgrade to those (I like them alot). 4.7 to 5.7 hemi swaps are almost becoming a regular occurrence because they're the most straight forward (same trans, same driveshaft, same rear axle, similar wiring setups). 6.1/6.4's have been dropped in, but the require: revamped front timing cover to fit the inevitable eagle or 6.1 intake (unless you intend to run 3G 5.7 heads, then you can keep your stock intake manifold) which would require an electric fan (unless as stated you run the 3G 5.7 heads); custom tuning and probably a spare transmission, as larger displacements/stroker power/more power in general seem to eat the 545RFE. Of course the easiest/cheapest/most straight forward is another 4.7. I would either find another or rebuild the short block on hand, then see if it was feasible to adapt the 08+ heads to it and get it to run right. Top it off with 08+ intake manifold and custom tuning and you might have a fun baby engine to play with.

Haha well damn. Sounds like too much money, which is what I was needing to hear though as much as I don't like it. I was hoping I could just buy the 6.2 or 6.1 whatever it is can't remember and get a shop to drop it in. I really like my truck and everything about It other than the engine being a baby V8 and having so man miles
