I'm thinking of upsizing the tires on my 2019 Ram Longhorn. The tire options I'm considering are the Nitto Grappler G2 and the Toyo Open Country AT ll . Does anyone have experience with those tires? I do mostly on road driving. How is the road noise? The life of the tread? How do they effect the ride over factory treads? Do you have any other brands to recommend?

Thank you ahead of time..

I have not used the Nittos but when I changed to 17" Rebel wheels they came with the Toyo Open Country AT lI. The Toyos tended to slide on wet pavement which did not surprise me as I had read of similar reports.

I quickly changed to Falken Wildpeak A/T3W (snow rated). No more wet pavement sliding, not even a hint. And the off-road gripping power is phenomenal, they just don't break loose or spin.

The Toyo and the Nitto G2 are very similar tires, and Nitto is made by Toyo. I've had both over the years and never really was impressed. Tires I have come back to time and time again are the Cooper AT3 and Michelin Defender LTX. For the times I needed a "snowflake" rating, the Yoko G015's are sweet. To maintain the best ride, mpg, noise, dry/winter/wet handling, and longevity, the Michelin Defender LTX is a pretty easy choice IMO.

I always buy the round black ones LOL. But seriously, I was a tire dealer for 25 years and I always found the Michelin was the best tire made with the fewest factory defects. Since I do go off road I prefer a 10 ply rated tire since they are stronger and start out with a much deeper tread. Not the best for MPG but more likely to get you back home. I run Michelin LTX AT LR E. The factory Falken all terrains were a very good tire IMO.

I've run both, and preferred the Nitto's

Problem is I have the 22 inch rims. There are few options to upsize those. I can go with a 305/45 22 or a 33/12.5 22 which are very similar in size. The 33/12.5 22 has the Nitto and Toyo option.

I had the Nitto Grappler G2. I was not impressed with the way they handled in the snow on my rig. It didn't matter if it was enough for a footprint or a foot or more. These tires just sucked. I had them for 1 season and sold them. Everything else with these tires seemed ok.

I'm sure results will vary from others. Up here in Montana, G2's aren't that popular. At least in my area. Most with trucks will run a good AT for late spring through early fall and switch to a Mud/Snow tire for late fall through late early spring. Then those of us that use our rigs for towing and commuting will using try to keep a balance for a year round tire.

I have the BFG KO2 AT (Load E) on my truck. 2nd set I've owned. I absolutely love them. I needed a tire that was a good mix for paved and back roads for hunting and fishing and being able to handle in the snow.

Give them a looksy if you haven't made you mind up completely yet.

I uploaded a pic. KO2's on my rig.

Have a great day!
