This weekend I got new tires on but I’m not sure whether or not I was supposed to trust the tire shop guys after they had it on the lift, once I had read online about supposedly using the jack mode when at the tire shop.

I know there’s a jack mode on the settings but it seems to me that that’s only for like when you’re trying to change a flat or something but does that pertain to lifting the entire vehicle up from the frame? Which was all the Discount Tire shop I went to, did. They just used the frame-lift which let the suspension drop down at full droop. Was this a safe thing to do? Everything appears to be fine. I guess it’s a little too late to ask this now but this is just for the next time, or for when rotation time comes up.

Why kind of truck? I’m assuming you have air suspension and all it does is lower the suspension to make the factory jack come in contact with the frame sooner, and so you don’t have to crank it so high. I don’t have air suspension and have no clue but that would be my best assumption. It should not have any effect what so ever with them putting it on a lift.

The tire jack mode disables the air suspension and leaves it at a normal height. It disables it so that the compressor can’t kick in and try to level the truck while you have one wheel jacked up, which could be dangerous.

I assume it should also be disabled when the entire truck is lifted by the frame as I imagine when the wheels drop down the computer will try to release pressure to get them back at the correct level. Whether it hurts anything to not do that I don’t know?

It’s a 2018 Ram.

I would imagine jack-mode would only be used if you were trying to raise one or more wheels independently from the rest like, while changing a flat.

I wasn’t out there watch them and to listen to the truck as they raised it so I can’t say whether or not if the system transferred all the air from the bags to to the tanks but at least when I did walk out there shorts after they got it raised and the wheels off, the compressor wasn’t even on or ever attempted to turn on the whole time it was up in the air so maybe the system’s smarter than I think.

I was just concerned after reading some of the other forums out there stating that jack mode had to be used any time the vehicle was being raised.
