My 3500 drw truck was deliverd with 235 80r 17 tires. looking for tires online the tire sites tell me the tires are under size. they tell me 265's are needed. can anyone tell me why? The door sticker and the tires match.

265/70/17 is usually the stock size for a SRW, but even though 265 isn't all that wide they will rub sometimes between the the duals in the rear when loaded pretty heavily

235 is the correct stock size tire for you DRW

This.

Your door sticker is the authority on this since it is put there by the manufacturer.

Pretty sure you can move up sizing if you wish, you just have to measure. Also, bigger tires sizes won't automatically equate to higher load values and capabilities, so you will need to look into the load ratings per tire maker and model and size.

That information should be pretty readily available from the manufacturer in either brochure form or on the internet, usually the manufacturers site.

Don't know what to tell you.

I have owned half a dozen new pickups (all Dodge), and no less than 10 cars (various makers) all new. Every single one of them came with the same size tire that was labeled on the door.

In fact, I have never even heard of any vehicle not having factory door label sizes due to liability. Traffic crash reconstructionists look at the size on the label vs the size on the vehicle for a number of reasons including liability.

Then again, both our personal experiences are anecdotal and count for nothing.

The reality is the label is afixed for the exact vehicle by build code.

My only guess would be dealership installed oversized tires.

235's are right. That is what was on my 05 ram dually. You can run a 265 without adding a spacer in between the two rear tires although I'd add a 1/4"-1/2" to be safe. The next tall and skinny tire is 255 and the only tire I've seen is the bfg km2. Just make sure you are buy a E rated tire

They are a really narrow tire
my buddy put 265s on his 03 drw and had to add a spacer between the rears when hauling his enclosed trailer over 8k lbs, I can't remember if he did an inch or inch and a half
