Probably a chafed spot or broken/loose connection in the trailer wiring. Have one person watch the lights and/or dash display while another goes through the trailer wiring harness poking and prodding. Or ask someone to drive behind you and see if the lights flicker.

I have also had the 7 pin connectors get dirty and make an intermittent connection.

I would also spray some contact cleaner into the plug and outlet then blow it out with some compressed or canned air or just let it dry for a minute or two. Also don't forget to check the connection behind the bumper (the back half of the outlet that's in the bumper).

The CRC brand they sell at Home Depot is good and plastic safe. That's what you need.

Also look for burn spots on the connector before you clean the connectors.

as mentioned, check/clean plug on th truck, front and rear.
clean trailer plug, inspect the trailer ground wire connection, to frame.
Then chase trailer wiring, from the plug, backwards.

One time, in band camp, (God I loved that scene)
my entire issue is was the tiny round connectors were too collapsed. stuck a small pick in one, opened it up,
did to each one and all my issues went away.

Made contact but as i went down teh road, the jarring would cause spllit second loss of contact.
took me hours to figure that one out, since everything looked perfectly fine. Now, its one of the first thing i check.

If this is happening with a trailer hooked up, I would focus my search on the electric brakes.

It is the connection to them that alert the truck a trailer is connected.

So, the wire for the electric brakes, ground or even the trailer could be your issue.

Good luck. I am about to dive into fixing my trailer plug issues.

I have no running lights or 12v power.

DevilDog is right on about the trailer brake circuit. Therein lies your problem. The blade type plugs are notorious for losing contact.
